"Evenin' Walk"

Sultry stroll through the city as evening falls. Skies drift from deep orange to rich purple to lush dark night when stars begin to flicker. We walk from the quiet street where our loft is located, down to the street and to the tree-lined boulevard that will take us downtown. The night grows deep, richer in the evening sea breeze. We walk through the wharfs, watching the boats and the seagulls, then head to the zone where jazz clubs drift in the night clothed in neon light and saxophone textures. We settle at a table, order a scotch, and sway to the orchestra on stage. The sultry evening has turned into a lush musical experience that satisfies both body and soul.

and the world is hushed, voices
surface in musical array

textured whispers in sequence
of musical motifs, blues in the night,
a lonesome saxophone moans

in dark space, counter-point
to a jazz singer whose silhouette
glows like slivers of light—

what does this sudden melodic utterance
that comes like a deep breath mean?

One will discover that in mind and body's
response to the musical atmospheres

as we listen to
the magic of the music.

In the Wee Hours

A Touch of Blue

It begins in a hush—hi-hats fluttering like breath, panning left to right, a sine wave murmuring beneath, and low sub-bass like the ground itself humming. Slowly, a chord in E minor stretches wide, holding space for blues guitar riffs to emerge—gritty, bright, unpolished. A woman’s voice joins in scat, answering and teasing the guitar, their voices winding around each other in a playful, smoky dance. The current shifts: a sequencer takes hold, steady and hypnotic, while a saxophone pours out phrases like thoughts half-formed. As the piece draws to a close, the scat returns—solo now—fleeting, alive, ending on a final jazz phrase. The first sounds reappear, softer this time, and drift quietly into silence.
