Big up all massive! On this set I go back to my tribute series and select the great Lincoln "Sugar" "Bugga" Minott. For those of you who don't know of or much of Sugar Minott or are a big fan of his this is a great collection of some of my favorite Sugar Minott tunes spanning over 2.5 hrs! 

Sugar, who was born Lincoln Barrington Minott on May 25, 1956 in Kingston Jamaica, was a singer, producer & sound system operator who also discovered and developed young talent. After working as a selector on the Sound of Silence Keystone Sound System, he began his singing career in 1969 as part of The African Brothers vocal group along with Tony Tuff & Derrick Howard releasing over a couple dozen songs. After their breakup in 1974 Sugar started working for Clement "Coxsone" Dodd and his Studio One label as a singer, guitarist and percussionist and soon began recording his own singles. He adopted the name 'Sugar" because people used to say that his voice was so sweet it was like sugar!

Sugar then began recording and scoring hits for producers such as Winston Holness, Mikey Dread, George Phang, Sly & Robbie, Phillip "Fatis" Burrell, Donovan Germain, Lloyd "Bullwackie" Barnes and not to mention for himself on his own labels Youthman Promotion & Black Roots Records. 

His Youthman Promotion Sound & Label had a stable of who's who in the business such as Ranking Joe, Captain Sinbad, Ranking Dread, Barry Brown, Tenor Saw, Little John, Tony Tuff, Barrington Levy, Horace Andy, Trevor Hartley, Nitty Gritty, Junior Reid, Colourman, Daddy Freddy & Yami Bolo. 

Sugar's hits include "Buy Off The Bar", "No Vacancy", "Rydim", "Lovers Race", "Slice Of The Cake", "Good Thing Going", "Oh DC" & " Hard Time Pressure" just to name a few. 

Sugar passed away on July 10, 2010 at the University Hospital of the West Indies in St. Andrew Parish, Jamaica. His cause of death remains undisclosed but had been affected by a heart condition since early 2009 which forced him to cancel several performances in 2010. He was 54 years old.

So, roll up your spliffs and get ready to enjoy some of my favorite Sugar Minott tunes from over the years! I hope you all enjoy it! -DJ Kali

Based in London town and with a serious history in everything dance music, you’d be hard pushed to find someone more passionate about electronic sounds than Jake Cusack. With an involvement in the scene lasting over two and half decades, he has built inimitable experience and know-how that he continues to grow and learn from. From the humble days of DJing at the age of 14, to cutting dub plates in the music house on the Holloway Road to play in his evening sets, he has experienced the underground side of dance music and watched it flourish into the huge industry we know and love today.

Specialising in a unique brand of Deep and Tech House, Cusack’s sounds have garnered him support from all corners of the genre’s fan base. Originally from Wales, but living in London for twenty plus years, he moved to become closer to the sounds that he adored, finding himself releases and shows all over the world, connecting with 12inch Thumpers and Fresh DJ Agency he found himself playing at legendary shows such as Sundissentail & God Kitchen, and playing to crowds from Kings Cross to Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. Influenced by artists such as Tony De Vit and Tall Paul, his releases were unleashed to critical acclaim.
