How did markets respond to a hotter-than-expected CPI print? As predicted, markets did open sharply lower...but, buyers immediately stepped into the markets, pushing prices higher and closing above the 20- and 50-DMA. Markets did not, however, break out of an ever-compressing price range. As investors began to digest the CPI components, it became clear things weren't as bad as first thought. So the consolidation range continues to hold as markets remain in a 'wait-and-see' mode. Trump's reciprocal tariffs are also ramping up the risk for a global tit for tat. Markets closed on Friday at all-time highs, with positive money flows, and a buy signal in place. Markets are up 5% for the year following a sloppy start in January. We have a lot of retail exuberance in the markets, and correlations are starting to all go to One. There is too much money chasing too few assets, and that dynamic is lifting all stocks. Emerging markets and international have performed similarly so far this year; however, be careful of the hype. These markets have not broken out of their long-term channel for the past five years. Emerging markets are still lower than they were back in 2021. The question remains: Can these markets actually play catch up to the US? 2-18-25 Too Much Money Chasing Too Few Assets

It is the 90th anniversary of the establishment of Social Security; amazingly, some recipients over the age of 150 are apparently still receiving benefits (!). Could there be a clue here on how to help shore up the fund? Just sayin... Nvidia earnings are on the way; Meta has and a 20-day winning streak, not one down day for the pat6 20-trading days. &nbsp;Its performance as one of the Mag-7 stocks is what has helped, in part, keep markets elevated. The market defies more negative news because retail investors continue to step in and “buy the dip.” In our recent Bull Bear reports, we discussed the push by retail investors, but looking at retail sentiment is quite remarkable. Since the pandemic, retail investors have never been this bullish on the stock market. Such is amazing, given that their mailboxes are not being stuffed with government stimulus checks.” Retail investors are expected to become more bullish about increasing equity exposure when markets rise. However, the more extended markets become, the more confident investors are about increasing speculative risk. 2-18-25 Retail Exuberance Sets Up Market for Correction

&nbsp;Markets traded very sloppily Tuesday...until the last 15-minutes of the day: Buys rushed into the markets, pushing up to another, new, all-time high. Can markets hold? Will they continue to build on yesterday's breakout? Typically, all time highs generate more all time highs; it's all about momentum. The MACD did not trigger a sell signal, and it's still on a "buy." Relative strength is starting to move up, but not over sold, yet, and money flows continue to be positive. Presently, there is no reason to be overly bearish in the market as the trend continues higher, at least for the short term. Also, we are still within the seasonally-strong period of the year. Price compression to the buy side continues. We suggest continuing to manage risk, and use opportunities to rebalance portfolios.
