Critical Music welcomes back Dutch producer Waeys for his first release of 2025, following a busy year of collaborations, remixes and solo tracks.

‘If Not Me’ drones, steps and snarls its way rapidly into life with a detuned bassline stretching across a spacious two-step beat, decorated in just the right places by bars from MC Sylla.

As the name suggests, ’Backhanded Wobbler’ is… wobbly. But in a very good way, with a squelching, acidic jump-up bassline going wild across skipping drums for a track that's as sonically interesting as it is energetic.

As we start to move into spring/summer 2025 its time for the next entry in the magic hour mix series. Heavily influenced by a recent trip to fabric for 1985/GeminiGemini x Rubi Records, which was incredible. This one has a clear divide at the midpoint where darker sounds are explored. As this is the seventh entry in the series, this one goes out to Cloud Strife! Also a massive thank you to Submorphics for sending Rosebay006 over on dub. Following an impressive debut release for Critical’s talent brewing sub-label Binary in 2024, SMG steps up in uncompromising mood, with the three-track ‘Cloaked’ EP.

The title track draws you in with the eeriest of atmospherics before collapsing into a sharp, stepping groove that swoons and stretches from the despicably rough to the satisfyingly smooth.

‘Suku’ brings the cinematics - melding mystical, dreamy moods and foreboding spoken-word samples with a silky sub-bassline that gently twists and growls its way through endless sonic textures.

‘Halogator’ takes things harder, with SMG linking with fellow Critical producer Waeys to close the EP with a punishing crunch, taking things nasty with a snarling, bickering bassline and splashing drums.

LUCIAN is a trailblazer in Sydney’s Drum & Bass scene, emerging in the late 1990s as a leading figure known for his deep, atmospheric, and tech-driven sound. His dynamic DJ sets, characterized by fast-paced, layered, and precise mixing, have made him a crowd favourite. This reputation earned him the opportunity to support some of the genre's most influential names, including Calibre, Total Science, Bad Company, Marcus Intalex, Jubei, Commix, Aphrodite, Moving Fusion, Bailey, Ray Keith, J Majik, Friction, A Sides, Delicat, Ulterior Motive, and Patife.

For over two decades, LUCIAN has been promoting in Sydney, creating successful club nights like Sonic Fiction, United, Momentum, Joined at the Bass, and Airbourne. These nights helped solidify Sydney's Drum & Bass culture, ensuring the genre’s underground roots continued to thrive and evolve. This dedication led to successful tours across Australia’s East Coast, including Melbourne, Canberra, and Brisbane.

After focusing on family in recent years, LUCIAN has returned with a renewed passion for the dancefloor, exploring a range of new styles, including Techno, House, Garage, Leftfield, Hip Hop, and Down Tempo.

We are a growing grassroots community of DJs based in South West of England/London.

LA:MB is an emerging London/Brighton based DJ making a name for herself in the DnB scene. Her sets consist of high energy tunes and heavy baselines which create a jumpy vibe that keeps you dancing.
