Old Sultan the dog was long in the tooth,
Spent his days dreaming under the roof.
His master declared, "Tomorrow’s your end,"
But Sultan wasn’t ready to ascend.

So he trotted to the woods with a woeful face,
To see his pal, Wolf, in their secret place.
"I’m to be gone by the break of dawn,
Help me, dear Wolf, before I’m gone!"

The Wolf with a grin, hatched a clever scheme,
"A hero, not zero, you shall seem!
We’ll stage a ruse with the master's tot,
You’ll save the day and secure your spot."

Oh, old dogs and cunning wolves can spin,
A tale so bold, where both might win.
With a bark and howl, they set their stage,
To give old Sultan a hero's wage.

The next morning sun barely rose,
When Wolf snatched the babe, by the toes.
Sultan barked and gave a chase,
Saved the child, kept his place.

"Bravo!" cried the shepherd, patting his head,
"Old Sultan’s a hero!" he happily said.
"A feast for the brave," his wife did cheer,
"And you shall stay with us, year after year."

But the Wolf came back with a sly request,
"Let me dine on a sheep, and I’ll do the rest."
Sultan wagged, "No deals on the sly,
True to my master, till I die!"

The Wolf sneered, thinking it a jest,
Came that night to put it to test.
But Sultan warned of the sly thief’s track,
Earned him a wallop, quite the whack!

Angered, Wolf challenged him to a duel,
Sultan stood, no fool, no tool.
With a three-legged cat by his side so high,
They tricked the foes, made them cry.
