Beyond the crowded zones and mapped regions, where the roads end, my journey begins. Following ancient footpaths and trails, I venture into the vast grasslands of Mudagistan in search of the finest traditional Mudagistani folk music.

The tune presented here is old and of uncertain origin. It is a fine example of the distinct style found among the nomadic tribes of the plains.

Around the World with Open Hands

This wave was played during my timeslot at the Dance for Peace fundraiser, a 24-hour online dance marathon that united hearts and rhythms across the globe. Co-created with Shauna Devlin, the event featured 24 amazing movement facilitators, each leading a unique 50-minute session with a 10-minute transition, weaving a seamless journey of music, movement, and mindfulness.
Together, we exceeded our goal, raising $12,384 for Doctors Without Borders through the collective energy of dancers, listeners, and supporters. Every beat, every step, and every contribution made an impact! 
We raised $12,384 f for Doctors Without Boarders and brought movement, joy, release and deep connection across the globe. Shauna was present for the whole 24 hours and I was there for 20 hours and 30 minutes, the whole time dancing, admitting people, sending thank you notes to the new donors and communicating with teachers, with a BIG SMILE on both our faces! WE DID IT!! 

This dance took place on the traditional, ancestral and unceded territories of the Coast Salish peoples– xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations.

Shawn is a Montreal based Nigerian singer, songwriter, and digital content creator. He grew up in an interfaith household with 3 siblings.
