"The Lord of the Rings" by J.R.R. Tolkien is a high-fantasy epic trilogy that follows the journey of a young hobbit, Frodo Baggins, who inherits a powerful and dangerous artifact—the One Ring—forged by the Dark Lord Sauron to control Middle-earth.

To prevent Sauron from reclaiming it and plunging the world into darkness, Frodo and his allies—including Gandalf the wizard, Aragorn the ranger, Legolas the elf, Gimli the dwarf, and his loyal hobbit friends Sam, Merry, and Pippin—form the Fellowship of the Ring and set out on a perilous quest to destroy the Ring by casting it into the fiery chasm of Mount Doom, where it was originally made.

Along the way, the Fellowship is tested by betrayal, war, and temptation. The group splits, battles rage across Middle-earth, and characters like Aragorn embrace their destiny as king. Frodo and Sam, guided (and manipulated) by the twisted creature Gollum, push onward to complete their mission.

In the end, the Ring is destroyed—partly by Gollum's obsession—and Sauron is defeated. Peace returns to Middle-earth, and Frodo eventually sails west with the elves, leaving the world of men behind.
