Caressing with my fingers through the linens of time,
I can sense every single spectrum through millines of years lived in one sight.
Like water drops, they fall on the depths of my skins through all my lives.

touched by the stars and the moon in the dark night sky, 
felt and understood by the divine.

With tears in my eyes I share with you a soul journey into the depths of Time.
Inspired by a place named Talampaya, somewhere in the rocky deserts of Argentina.

A place where big part of my heart remains in the eternal present, bathed in the endless spectrums of what 'time' means, when one feels to comprehend the incomprehensible.

your Mind works - 013: Dub

Hei alle sammen, and a warm welcome back to the Blendet Series

After being on an adventures weekend at Soria Festival, in a Valley close to Kristiansand in the south of Norway. We are back in Oslo and continuing our journey whitin the Blendet Series. 

In Episode 006 we celebrate an Album from an Icelandic Producer who is very known for his unique rhythmic and deep dub techno sounds. His Name is Aðalsteinn Guðmundsson alias Yagya.  

At the description of his Album Sleepygirls it says "Right from the rolling bliss of the opener, you're suspended in a womb, like a pillow of sound that is soft, warm and serenely beautiful." His productions could not be better described. 

Aðalsteinn creativity gives us soothing and escapist soundtracks, what trances the listener in utterly mindful experiences. In his productions can be jazzy instrumentals from a saxophone and guitar to counter the repetitiveness of the rhythms and moods. Or soft Japanese vocals, like in Sleepygirls to guide the mind in an dream state where his Drone like Atmospheres let you go deeper and deeper. 

In Stormur, Yagya continue to evolve his sound into the pure techno realm. His unique palette still identifiable, but the focus now on the swirling hypnotism, the delicate tonal progressions, whispering vocals, and the underlying current that transports you, from the whiteness of Island floor to the soaring treetops, the dense whirlpools of mist, and the breathtaking landscapes are now seen from above.

Stormur means translated, "Storm". It focuses on subtle flow and progression between tracks akin to a full DJ set, transporting you from one chapter to the next. The hole Album is produced in 127 BPM and each track taking its cue from the previous. The tonal shifts are only minimal, what creates for the listener a trance-like state. Fallen into his movements best absorbent in one hole listening. Guest vocalist Hatis Noir providing an angelic voice amongst the shifting patterns, swirling synthesizers and driving grooves.

Opening with a track from Conforce, the elegant rolling bass feels both sweeping & mesmerizing. Later on, we gradually increase the BPM to 134 with tech house & techno only to finish things off with a more driving but no less hypnotic & deep sound, this time with the sleek synth pads from Faith by Paul St-Hilaire & René Lowe. There the spaced-out chords and bouncing kicks might take you up amongst the stars... Perfect for those zoned-out, low-lit basement moments at 5am.

On the sleeve notes to BT's 1995 album Ima was an ee cummings quote. between the beauty of those words, the amazing images on the sleeve, and the astonishing music contained on the record itself, i fell in love with electronic music. I guess since then i've been trying to manifest that wonder every time i play. i rarely manage it. but i see no reason to stop trying.

I am a music curator and a selector, a record collector and a mixologist since 1999. I started listening and buying electronic music in 1991 at 14 years old, first The Orb, early Warp records & R & S :) Afterwards, I became a DJ in chill-out rooms in the 1990's.  From then on, I hosted radio shows from 1999 to 2009. Resident DJ at Le Cosmos and Boudoir from 2002 until 2012. 

I still play live but no longer a resident in lounges/clubs.

Music I like : ambient, techno, downtempo,  deep house, Detroit Techno, IDM, funk, electro & dub-tech.  As well as Krautrock, jazz, dub, trip-hop and hip-hop.

I have always been an audiophile, that is the result of growing up with a father who has a thing for big sound, not such a bad trait to inherit. My love of sound grows from there, often as a child needing the music to be playing so I could occupy my mind as I fell asleep. 

In the late 90's (96/97) and I had my first experience with turntables and vinyl. I was hooked and in 1998 bought my first vinyl, and played actively till moving digital... through the 2010's I played with a fully digital setup, but gave up on chasing software updates... fast forward to 2024 and I am back to the pure analogue sounds of vinyl, the PlayDifferently Model 1.4 mixer and my trusted 1200s. 

From day one I have always been a techno fiend with my greatest influences coming from the London Acid Techno scene (SUF, Cluster, 4x4, etc), Sweden (Adam Beyer, Cari Lekebusch, etc) and probably the biggest influence being Richie Hawtin aka Plastikman and Detroit Techno. 

Armand-Emile is symbolic of who I am and my sound is a blend between House, Deep House, Tech House, Techno and Minimal ... some times even venturing into more progressive sounds.. It's all about the crowd and the dance floor and finding that groove.
