Impressions of my journey in Zambia

Why is that guy Maverick walking through townships, in the heat, day after day with a monkey on his back?
A bit of story telling. Velvet Underground meets Modern Lovers meets Zambia. The middle part is inspired by southern Zambia gospel choirs. The outro resembles a lousy Kalindula band, you can find in bars and pubs in hot & sweaty Livingstone.
In huge respect to the Zambian people - a fantastic country - I hope a little bit of the Bemba part is pronounced well enough, I did practice...

The African iGaming industry is at a pivotal moment, driven by digital adoption, a young tech-savvy population, and a culture of innovation. Mobile-first platforms, agent-driven distribution, and localized content are transforming how millions of Africans engage with gaming and financial services, with markets like Nigeria, Kenya, Tanzania, and South Africa leading the way.

Industry veteran Martin Sack, in Episode 13 of the iGaming AFRIKA Podcasts, emphasized that Africa’s growth brings challenges, including complex tax regimes and evolving regulations. He highlighted the need for balanced frameworks that protect players, sustain state revenue, and keep operators profitable, pointing to differences between countries like Zambia and South Africa. Martin stresses that open dialogue between regulators and operators, along with structured engagement, is key to building a fair and sustainable ecosystem.

Localization and understanding local realities are central to success. Operators must engage with communities, adapt to cultural norms, and leverage agent networks. Martin also sees iGaming as a catalyst for socio-economic development, creating skills, businesses, and opportunities for youth.

Africa’s complexity fuels innovation, and emerging markets like Angola and Mozambique hold untapped potential. According to Martin Sack, the continent’s future depends on communication, fairness, education, and collaboration—allowing African operators to lead, innovate, and expand globally.

Since spring 2023 I have been writing and recording mainly as a "one man band", using acoustic & electric guitars, bass guitar, keyboards, an old piano, conga, etc. and a voice.
Former member of German bands: In Rags (with Sami Yli-Sirniö and Roman Keymer), Sharkpool and Dutch bands Garbitsjkeng, The Wit, Trio van Putten and and a few others. I baptized my Alter Ego and named him "Pot Barley".

Every week in Berlin, we invite artists to share the music they love. These recordings come straight from our space, just as they were played.

All sets at migas are captured from the output of our Isonoe ISO420 mixer into a Tascam FR-AV2 recorder via balanced cables, in WAV 48kHz / 32-bit float.

The mastering chain includes only a touch of analog-style saturation (BB Tubes), applied in parallel to add warmth and cohesion, followed by a transparent limiter (L2) to gently control peaks.

The final file is exported as FLAC 48kHz / 16-bit.
