For most people in Zooma's hometown of Gothenburg, Stadsmissionen is a familiar institution. For over 70 years, they've worked to help the city's most vulnerable with emergency help and long-term support - whether they're dealing with homelessness, mental illness, addiction, domestic violence poverty or social exclusion.
&nbsp;
Today, Göteborgs Stadsmissionen (or Gothenburg City Mission in English) is an organisation with over 500 employees, as well as more than 450 volunteers. Stadsmissionen runs food kitchens, a network of second-hand stores, housing facilities, therapy and support groups, work placement schemes and much more.
&nbsp;
In order to keep things going, they depend on donations from private individuals and companies - and that's where marketing and communications comes in. In this week's episode, I spoke to Tomas Carlström, Stadsmissionen's Marketing Communications Manager, to find out how they make it happen.

This is an absolute joy of a gig from John Paul Jones, who appeared at the Big Ears Music Festival in Knoxville, TN on March 22, 2024. He played all three days of the event. One night with Sons of Chipotle, one night solo (which is what I'm playing), and one night with Thurston Moore from Sonic Youth. Our boy gets around. 

I play a few tracks from his solo set, an isolated bass rendition of Ramble On (just a couple of minutes long), Since I've Been Loving You on the grand piano, an already legendary performance of Your Time is Gonna Come on a 1928 Wurlitzer organ, and a haunting, elegiac Down to the River to Pray, off of his solo album Zooma. 

This is a master class in virtuosity and humility. He's a genius and a very lovely man, who completely holds the torch for Led Zeppelin magick in this moment. Enjoy.

For this episode we hear the thunderous John Paul Jones on tour for his Zooma album, at The Fubar in Fort Lauderdale, Florida on March, 10, 2000. This is a very well recorded show for around 200 people. The sound and vibe are incredible. Jonesy is very chatty and interactive with the audience. 

I play Grind (from Zooma), Crackback (from the Scream for Help soundtrack), and B. Fingers (again from Zooma). Great musician and a great show.
