(So, the internet is a bit spotty where I've set up the Phantom Laboratories West Mobile Recording Unit...so if this upload is incomplete, I'll re-do it until it's all here.  A promise to you, loyal Interbay listener--whoever you may be!)

Was 1991 a good year?  There are certainly good things about it that I remember, but there are some memories which aren't so happy, as well.  

I suppose the biggest memory I have of 1991 was that it was my first international flight.  Because of the recent Gulf War, air travel was temporarily cheaper...and my parents thought it would be a very good idea to treat me to a trip to the UK, to visit my girlfriend, who had been spending a semester at Harlaxton College in Grantham.  

To say that I enjoyed my visit would be both a huge understatement and somewhat ungentlemanly.  I think the fact that I've returned to the UK so many times in the years since is telling.  

I do remember going to a nightclub in London--not a trendy one, but one fairly close to Picadilly Circus, so there were mostly other tourists in there.  And they were blasting rave music, it being 1991 and all.  Now, I knew some rave music thanks to the Hot Mix 5 out of Chicago, thanks to off-the-radio cassette tapes that landed in my hands...and though Eau Claire wasn't quite ready for that yet, I sure was!  I'm more of a club with smoke and cool lights than tramping out into a field type--so, this felt like heaven to me (though, it wasn't Heaven...if you're familiar with the scene at the time.)  

I still remember SO many choons I heard that night--and I'd gone by myself (something I would NEVER do today) as my girlfriend had classes, so I ventured into London on my own.  Nomad's "(I Wanna Give You) Devotion", Xpansions "Move Your Body," and, the inspiration for today's track, Bizarre Inc's "Playing With Knives."  The DJ managed to work that track in four or five times over the course of the night...and it shouldn't surprise anyone that I bought and brought home all three of those 12" singles (thank you to the dj record store in Grantham who not only had all three in stock but didn't refuse to sell it to me when he found that I was also buying a Jivebunny & The Mastermixers 12" and the Grease Medley 12" (as Eau Claire WAS ready for those!)  "Brilliant, brilliant, brilliant, garbage, trash--but it's yer money," I remember the clerk saying to me--and he wasn't wrong.  

(I do also remember that the clerk told me that he could  line me up with some gigs if the stuff I spun was like the first three tracks.  Said I could even get a residency at a club, which could pay me enough to live in the UK.  Don't think I didn't consider it.  Don't think I didn't look into what all I had to do.  Don't think that I didn't ALSO go to the offices of Trent FM in Nottingham, where I was told that UK advertisers LOVE American voices--so, if I DID manage to get myself residing in the UK, I'd have a job there waiting for me.)  

1991.  What a year.  Legendary.  
(...but no, it didn't happen because I couldn't make it work.  Sigh.)

Jens Jakob is a boundary-pushing producer from Aalborg, Denmark, known for his relentless creativity and deep connection to the underground. With hundreds of tracks to his name, he's carved out a distinct space across house, techno, trance, and now, channeling the raw spirit of '90s UK breakbeat through his own bold, futuristic lens.

Jens Jakob studied electronic music at the Royal Academy of Music, earning a bachelor in Aalborg and a Master of Music (Cand. musicae) in Aarhus, combining academic depth with underground sensibility. From the high-voltage energy of Tækno Jens to the mind-altering psychedelia of Toxic Scientist, his solo work explores a wide sonic spectrum. He's also one half of collaborative duos Nordic Echoes and Apollo 420, where deeper rhythmic exploration meets layered sound design. His solo side-projects Sequency, Slambert, and Hope in Dope further stretch the edges of genre, diving into experimental and bass-infused territories.

As the founder of Unique Sound Records, he's not just creating tracks, he's building a universe. Whether solo or in collaboration, Jens Jakob's music fuses underground spirit with fearless exploration. This release is no exception, rhythmic, raw, and deeply rooted in the dancefloor.

Sophiaaaahjkl;8901 is a multi-genre electronic musician and visual artist currently living in the San Francisco Bay Area. Their musical work is made up of upbeat, high energy, sample mangling maximalism and is largely informed by a lifetime spent online.

Hailing from Atlanta, Georgia, and deeply rooted in the gritty heartbeat of Southern nightlife, Cameron Clark of Sunset Sessions Hollywood CA is a vinyl-purist DJ with over three decades of experience behind the decks. Known for his unparalleled collection of rare records and signature blends of UK progressive house, deep trance, and Florida-style funky breakbeats, he’s a living historian of underground dance music.

His journey began with humble college parties powered by two CD players, a tape deck, and a two-channel mixer—but the true turning point came in 1995 when he fell in love with vinyl. From there, the sound of crackling grooves and booming basslines became his religion.

    •    Early Days: started clubbing at legendary Southern venues like Masquerade (Atlanta), AAHZ (Orlando), The Edge (Jacksonville,Orlando,Ft Lauderdale), and Pterodactyl (Charlotte),Cameron Clark became a dancing fixture in the breakbeat and rave scenes of the ‘90s.
    •    Vinyl Roots: A devoted crate digger and master of the decks, he built a world-class vinyl collection that spans every genre—always ready to drop heat at a moment’s notice.
    •    Hollywood Bound: In 1998, he moved to Los Angeles and began managing the iconic DMC Records on Melrose Ave. There, surrounded by West Coast legends, he upped his game and refined his technical mastery.
    •    Residencies: Held down the decks at Florentine Gardens and Club Lingerie in Hollywood while rocking underground warehouse parties and pop-up events across L.A.
    •    Style Evolution: While rooted in breakbeat, Cameron Clark evolved his sound to include hypnotic UK progressive house and cinematic deep trance—always staying ahead of the curve.
