Tamasin developed a profound respect for nature and animals in her early years whilst growing up in a rural area in Australia.   A keen meditator since childhood, Tamasin formalized her practice when she came across the Brahma Kumaris in 1984 at the age of 18. Tamasin loves being out and about - she has worked on camera as an actor, on the road as a paramedic, in the field as a medical anthropologist (PhD), in parliament as an advisor, and now in the bush as a wildlife rescuer and carer. As a perpetually curious student, she enjoys teaching meditation in ways that are simple, practical, and experiential for everyone.

This podcast discusses how Franked Investment Income (FII) Group Litigation, initiated to address claims that the UK's former corporation tax structure, particularly regarding the now-abolished Advance Corporation Tax (ACT) on foreign subsidiaries' dividends, breached core EU law principles. Central to the appeal is the conflict over available remedies for reclaiming unlawful tax, which included two concurrent restitutionary causes of action in English law: the Woolwich principle (unlawful demand) and the mistake of law (DMG) claim, the latter providing a favorable extended limitation period. The Supreme Court reviewed the validity of retrospective legislation, notably Section 320 of the Finance Act 2004 and Section 107 of the Finance Act 2007, which aimed to curtail the limitation advantage of the mistake claims. The judges debated whether removing this specific avenue for relief violated the EU requirements of effectiveness and the protection of legitimate expectations, especially given the continued availability of the Woolwich remedy. Ultimately, the legal analysis focused on ensuring that even when multiple national remedies exist, the state cannot retroactively remove a more advantageous remedy without due notice if that removal undermines the protection of EU rights.
