Smashed Atoms & Kathy Diamond make a most welcome return to the Hot Digits stable with a tasty two-part tray bake of special remix treatment applied to their 2020 hit ‘Lifted’. 

The Smashed Atoms Dub leaps out as an expertly de-constructed version of the original. The dreamy, filtered vocals and echo attack ebbs and flows perfectly, whilst the beat, bass and synth loops massage your aural senses into submission. 

Next comes the Adam Nova Remix, which from the get-go wants to beat you into dance floor submission.  The hard, driving disco bass, solid 4x4 beat and slick rhythm guitar transports you to that time and place where you’re throwing your hands in the air with complete strangers. Peak time disco candy floss. 

Closing this incredible release is equally incredible I Gemin remix. Like a Roisin Murphy fever dream, I Gemin takes us on a swingy, squelchy, housey rollercoaster that tingles, delights and astounds with its bare faced cheek. Definitely one for the ‘dance until dawn’ heads out there. 

With the 2023 remixes of ‘Lifted’ Hot Digits has pushed the envelope yet again and the label continues its seemingly endless supply of quality productions.

My meditation practice recently lead me to the concept of Mandalas and I was incredibly inspired and intrigued in many ways.  Most mandalas involve creating beautiful and intricate masterpieces of art that often take days, weeks, or even longer to make.   The creators of this art dedicate all of their time, attention, and energy to create something that will eventually be purposefully destroyed and dismantled.  This destruction process represents the impermanence of life and I couldn't help but relate it to art, music, creation, and really anything we hold dearly.  There is a certain beauty in creating something just for the sake of creating.  No expectations and no attachment, just focusing on the journey and not the end result.  A magical hello and a peaceful goodbye.  I hope this idea, these tunes, this mixtape as a whole, and these words empower you to ride the ever changing waves of life in 2024 and beyond.  I myself am learning to let go a lot more.  Feel free to throw this mix in the ocean after enjoying, lord knows I will ;)

Hailing from Aberdeen but now living in Edinburgh, Ewan's love of music started from an early age when he started to listen to soul, funk and disco.  In 1993, Ewan started listening to Pete Tong's Essential Selection and Essential Mix shows and his love of house music started.

A pair of belt drive turntables and basic mixer were purchased shortly afterwards and Ewan started DJing at house parties and birthday parties while at University.  The belt drives were upgraded to 1210s which he still owns and Ewan continued to play at local parties, gigs and events. 

30 years on Ewan still likes to collect a broad range of disco and soulful house-music although the tempo has moderated over the years.  He makes regular recordings to share with like-minded music fans and has featured on the Even Funkier radio show, the Disco Waltons show on NDC Radio and Diamond Radio. He references Graeme Park (fellow Aberdeen fan), MAW, Dave Lee, Norman Jay, Dimitri from Paris and Frankie Knuckles as major influencers .

For the Finnish-born, San Francisco and Berlin-based DJ, producer and music curator, Janne Tavi it’s all about paying it forward “What good is music and the people behind it if it’s not being shared?” says Janne.

Born in Helsinki, Janne’s passion for music started early fueled in part by his synesthesia, a  condition causing people to perceive music in color. He spent a great deal of his youth in scouring Helsinki’s libraries and making sense of the colors. 

After being scouted by @ibadan while volunteering in a Helsinki nightclub, Janne moved to Berlin and found himself in a vibrant city, surrounded by a global artist roster and working alongside his childhood music idols – the legends of house and techno.

As his involvement with music deepened both in the studio and at Ibadan’s label HQ as an A&R, Janne’s musical aesthetic expanded beyond the limits of traditional genres. Rather than adhere to subjective categorizations that divide music, Janne always stays true to the vibe of any given room or occasion.

Janne found his calling in radio when he in 2021 launched his monthly London radio show, Badlands, focusing on connecting people with new talent, interviewing legends and paying tribute to its pioneers.

With his past collaborations and future releases with Kerri Chandler, Robert Owens, Fred P, Deetron and Cee ElAssaad, Janne is affirming his place as a torchbearer of the next generation. From his baptism by fire at his first ever club gig at Berghain/Panorama Bar to collaborations with legendary producers and now hosting his own radio show, Janne’s future bristles with opportunity.
