BIOGRAPHY

Chris Constantinou – vocals/guitar/bass/flute/keyboards
Rat Scabies - drums

Constantinou and Scabies recorded three albums as The Mutants and played live frequently between 2014-2016. Recorded in London, the debut album Rhythm and Punk Review (2014) was produced by Constantinou alongside bandmate Paul Frazer, and featured songs co-written and performed by leading lights of the punk and ska scenes. Guests included Wayne Kramer (MC5), Wilko Johnson (Dr. Feelgood), Norman Watt-Roy (Ian Dury and the Blockheads), T.V. Smith (The Adverts), Jake Burns (Stiff Little Fingers), Knox (The Vibrators), Neville Staple (The Specials), Charlie Harper (UK Subs), and Judy Nylon (John Cale, Brian Eno), among others. A subsequent album, Tokyo Nights (2015), was recorded in Japan and featured Constantinou and Scabies backing such homegrown alt-rock talent as Guitar Wolf, The 5.6.7.8’s, and Mika Bomb. Your Desert My Mind (2016) completed the triptych. Recorded at Rancho De La Luna in Joshua Tree, the final Mutants album featured such guests from the California rock scene as Victoria Williams, David Catching (Eagles of Death Metal), Chris Goss (Masters of Reality), Sean Wheeler (Throw Rag), and Peter Holmström, Zia McCabe and Brent DeBoer (The Dandy Warhols). 

“Because the Mutants were so unheard of when we were starting out, Chris, Paul and I felt we needed some famous faces in the mix to get attention,” explains Scabies. “The concept of bringing in guest stars and recording in different places worked fairly well, so we continued down that path for another pair of albums. 

Scabies continues, “Chris and I have similar musical tastes — from Slade to Eno. We have lots of the same records, influences, attitudes. We agree that perfection can be overrated, emotion is preferable.”  

Constantinou picks up, “Rat and I are from the same era and share some similarities in our childhood backgrounds. He is very professional and hard working — we both come from bands that have been successful and toured a lot so we know the score.”
