Trainwreck on Main Street is my response to the so-called “traffic calming” changes in downtown Northampton, Massachusetts. Once a vital four-lane stretch where locals and travelers alike flowed freely through the heart of the city, Main Street has been narrowed, boxed in, and painted over in the name of "progress." But for many of us, it feels more like a stranglehold than a solution.

This folk song tells the story of what’s been lost—businesses drying up, parking disappearing, and the quiet frustration of those watching their town change without consent. Inspired by the Gazette’s letters and my own drives down Main, I wrote this song as a kind of sonic protest. It’s not about nostalgia—it’s about survival.
