February 17 will mark the fifth anniversary of Andrew Weatherall’s tragic death. Three days before that, Material Music will release A Love from Outer Space, a compilation compiled and mixed by  Sean Johnston, who DJed and ran the A Love from Outer Space club night with Weatherall. It features 19 songs that capture the essence of the club night, many of them exclusive. I spoke to Sean about the new album, about London 88 Acid House madness, 122 BPM limits, all-time ALFOS anthems and DJing at ALFOS days after Weatherall’s passing. I hope you enjoy it. The Vendetta Suite is back to light up the early part of 2025 with a brilliant brace of singles on Hell Yeah. Kicking things off is a glorious acid house/disco thriller backed by a soothing out of body escape.

We’ve often referred to The Vendetta Suite as Belfast’s best kept secret, but with the quality music he keeps releasing he is rightly picking up ever more of a profile. The Hell Yeah regular has long been a key part of his native Northern Irish scene thanks to the way he mixes genres; ambient, post-rave Balearic, dub and acid house all in the mix with his own unique psychedelic magic.

First up is ‘The Jam Answer’, which taps into plenty of classic sounds but reinvents them for modern dancefloors. Bendy acid lines weave in between the dusty analogue drums, familiar acid house vocal samples and fizzing chord stabs bring the heat before a cosmic synth lead sings out with sunny soul.  ‘Island Hill Microdot’ channels dreamy Chicago house, the futuristic styles of IDM with the blissed out warmth of Balearic. Carried along with gentle percussion, it’s an immersive soundscape that makes for the perfect tropical distraction.

The greatest collaboration we've seen since Bing Crosby & David Bowie blasted out their lungs on Little Drummer Boy! Our very own Chris Massey joins forces with long time Sprechen supporters and closest musical colleagues Supernature for a mighty fine slice of yessmate acid disco chug.

Taken from our forthcoming 10 year anniversary compilation, Walk...Now Walk is a 303 powered rework of a discotheque classic (originally by a certain 6ft drag queen) which has been firmly put through the Massey makeover machine. The result is packing bags of sleaze & sass with a lead vocal from Supernature's BB sat atop a bubbling blast of acid lines, interwoven with relentless chuggy low end energy and hypnotic synth lines peppered throughout.

A perfect transition tune for when the need is there to switch things up from toe tapping to some serious shoulder jerking action...it's a biggie!

vinyl on 21st May 2018 on Pleasure Unit. Our next EP, 'Nothing Is Perfect', including remixes by Andrew Weatherall and Mind Fair was out in on July  and promptly sold out on our Bandcamp site.
