Algiers have been one of the most progressive and forward thinking groups of the past years and they are a tremendous live experience. So when a band like this launches a remix competition I’m naturally interested but I was especially scared this time. How do you approach a tune like their latest single “Irreversible Damage”, a chaotic and twisted political call to arms… one that even features the legendary Zack de la Rocha? 

Luckily that pumping acid bassline provided a bit guidance for me. My remix ended up being a bit faster, louder and more twisted than what I usually do, following the disturbing character of the original. It became a good outlet for my frustration - in a similar way the music of https://soundcloud.com/algiers often provides. They got a new album called “Shook” ready which drops on February 24 … plus they are probably playing a town near you this spring so make sure to catch them live.

Algiers is one of my absolute favourite artists. After getting to know them by seeing their show in Dresden, Germany, in September 2017, I got shook for real and they have influenced my work since then. Saw them live another two times (the last show before the lockdowns and one of the first after) i was looking forward to the new stuff. And what can I say? Zack de la Rocha? And a remix contest? With songs that are so crazy already that the question where to start a remix is almost meant to fail before you start ... but it soaked me in and it was great fun, picking some original elements and adding some own, including guitars from my friend Theo Sperlea and some vocals (and even some additional words and melodies) from the great Rue Stone. Made this for Algiers' remix competition for new song "Irreversible Damage" featuring Zach De La Rocha.  Went to upload it this afternoon and realize that I'm about 15 hours past the deadline.  Bummer, but oh well.  I at least hope someone in Algiers listens to this.  This was my first ever remix that I'm letting someone else hear, so please enjoy.
