Questa composizione e’ un omaggio al capolavoro di Fred Uhlman “L’amico Ritrovato”, novella in 19 capitoli; che ho trasposto in musica algoritmica dal sapore orchestrale, usando tecniche di linguistica computazionale; per esempio ogni capitolo ha durata fissa di 32 secondi ma densità di eventi sonori variabile e controllata geometricamente. Desidero con questa opera approfondire il passaggio tra i due piani: quello esteriore e quello interiore, credo che la musica possa mettere in risalto questa compresenza di aspetti, e quindi rendere più vigile l'ascoltatore e pronto a reagire o almeno a riconoscere quello che gli accade intorno; per farsi che non si ripeti una epoca buia.

Nada is pleased to present Kindohm - Mesabi Range. Our 22nd release is a collaboration with fellow Minnesotan Mike Hodnick aka Kindohm, where algorithmic funk meets crisp ice cold synthesis and elastic timings. 

Mesabi Range is perhaps Hodnick’s most hard-hitting release to date with the disorienting hyper-abstract geometries of IDM and footwork being obvious departure points.  A common motif are the lush textures and club-over-the-head rhythm of tracks like opener “a-code.” Elsewhere, the mutated jungle of “d-code” and “b-code” exhibit corkscrew-like percussion patterns contrasting with the melodic landscapes of “dubious triangle.”

All music was composed and produced with the TidalCycles coding environment using samples and live synthesis over MIDI. The samples and code files are included in this release for you to explore and use.

About the artist:
Kindohm is Mike Hodnick, an artist, composer, and software developer from Chaska, Minnesota USA. He has performed his unique brand of live-coded rhythmic permutations, angled sonics and textures at Algoraves worldwide. Mike received the Minnesota Emerging Composer Award from the American Composer Foundation in 2014.

Sonic Fauna is a new app designed for experimental electronic music production & sound design through algorithmic and generative creation. With Sonic Fauna you can assemble digital instruments through a super intuitive U.I. and build custom configurations of sequencers, synthesizers, drum machines and effects. The goal of Sonic Fauna is to be both a highly compelling tool for creating interesting sound & music and to be the center of a community of enthusiasts that help guide the direction of the project. The app is currently in a private alpha and is planned to enter a public alpha in the coming months.

I am a composer born in Italy with training and working experience in photography, cinematography and IT for medium-sized businesses. I have studied electronic music at the Luigi Cherubini Conservatory of Music in Florence. I love all kinds of music, I compose only using a computer, no commercial tools, I code my sounds or I record from the real world.
