Friends summer is here and that means one thing: reruns! Wait, you don't watch regular old broadcast TV anymore? Well, then how do you get your reruns?! Ah, yes, streaming. This month, we've grabbed hold of our Paramount+ subscriptions, fired up the old boob tube, and watched an episode of the original Star Trek series in which the crew of the Enterprise accidentally abduct two humans from Earth 1969 and then have to figure out how to get them back and the whole ship back to the 23rd century! Why is this important? Because we strongly feel that two UFO encounters probably influenced the storyline of this episode!

David Orange is fondly remembered as the sleepy (and likely inebriated) Klingon at the observation post in Star Trek VI.  He joins Hungry Trilobyte to recall his time on the set, telling a funny story about Leonard Nimoy, and waxing philosophical on what makes great science fiction.  David is an accomplished novelist and screenwriter, and the two of us also discuss two of his projects, one of which was inspired by his time on Star Trek, the other being a novel titled Below Level 7.  He gives a very compelling taste by hinting at the story of alien abduction, Area 51, and Adrenochrome.

The Rustic Signal has been lit once more! After performing in front of the camera for RESOLUTION and THE ENDLESS, Peter Cilella now steps behind the camera for his feature film directorial debut DESCENDENT (2025)! We've been looking forward to more directorial work from Peter since we saw his short film OCCUPANT a few years back, so we were very excited to check this movie out. It was a blast to discuss, and we hope everyone enjoys our conversation. As usual, we get into spoilers pretty quickly in this review, so we absolutely encourage everyone to check out the movie first. Since childhood, my passion for sound was sparked by legends like The Beatles and Pink Floyd, thanks to my father and the magic of discovery online. During my teenage years, music and parties became inseparable from who I was.

John Tabacco is an American composer, singer songwriter, producer, recording engineer, multi instrumentalist and graphic artist. He has engineered /mixed and mastered music for hundreds of New York recording artists as well as projects released on BMG: The Kemelions, RCA: Faze, Rampage/Rhino: Rhett Forrester, Columbia: Rebbie Jackson, Rykodisc : Bob Marley, Columbia: Chris Jasper, Electra: Sonia Dada and Nickleodeon’s Are You Afraid Of The Dark? He is the CEO of It Iz What It Iz Music Publishing which currently holds over 750 songs in its catalog. He has been an associate producer for IndiMusic TV and hosts a bi-weekly radio program (CLAM RADIO) on college radio WUSB.fm since 1999. He is currently the head of A&R at Modern Voices Digital Distribution.

His musical background consists of extensive study of orchestration with noted 20th century composer John Lessard, harmony with the late electronic music maverick Bulent Arel, and composition with Stony Brook University professor Peter Winkler. He received his BA in Music from Stony Brook University in 1983. 

Like an unfolding musical diary / puzzle, Tabacco’s music and art are constantly being re-worked, juxtaposed and intertwined. His style is a melding of pop - jazz -rock - avant garde / aleatory, classical and comedy.  He has been recording his music non stop since 1979.

Of note: In 1989 the satirical, absurd house song "Go House Yourself" co-written by Tabacco, Pati and DiMauro reached position 39 on Billboard's dance chart. 

In 2014 Tabacco signed a record deal with Texas, indie label, Muffin Records. They released his CD “Unfulfilled Shopping Carts Syndrome” internationally.
