Something fun for the end of 2024.

The past year was somewhat turbulent for me professionally; plans were made, plans changed, plans morphed into new things - most of this was all behind the scenes type of things - as they probably should be. But I rolled with it and turned it into something different. I released my self titled album, so named because I felt I had to take ownership of it in that way. The album got great reviews all around the world and got airplay on stations from SoCal to Europe. I am set to release a new album of ambient music tomorrow called "Music for Train Stations" which is both an ode to the Brian Eno classic as well as all my time spent in train stations this past year. 

To go from something like "Around here" to the ambient song "Roam" may seem like a stretch to some. Around here being slightly longer than 2 minutes and chronicling a dysfunctional family dynamic and breaking that cycle to Roam being a near 30 minute meditation of sound with some wind chimes that I field recorded and blended with a 1964 Steinway baby grand piano I was playing. There's a lot of space between these two songs that can lead one to wonder what is next. 

I'm here to tell you that I haven't figured it out yet. 

But I am welcoming in some joy and fun and that's why I'm putting this out into the world. 

Years ago I was in a band back east called The Gypsy Mechanics. They/We broke up somewhere around 2000 or so. Possibly later as I moved west at the tail end of 2000. Things happen, people change, move and whatever. Kris was drummer 5, 7 and 9 of the GMs. (Love to Jimmy too!) and his life changed a bit post GMs and he hadn't really picked up sticks or done much of anything musical in the time since. He was out in SoCal for a work thing a couple of weeks ago and messaged me about hanging out and I brought him into my studio and we made some fun noise. That's what it is - fun. It's important to remember that at the heart of what I do - it is fun. There's plenty of work that goes with it but why we started it was because it was fun. 

With that in mind, I set up some mics and he and I bashed this out live. Added lead guitar after and Tracy dropped some vocals in too. 

This recording also feels like the anti-AI type of recording. None of it is perfect. None of it is polished. It's raw and real.
