I took a walk nearby in the afternoon after the rain.
The autumn leaves are about to come, but for some reason I feel sentimental when I walk along the tree-lined road that is getting a little red.
I tried to make that feeling a simple song.
I love autumn.

Ash Katt was born in Akron, Ohio. He has spent the greater part of his life studying music and much of his adulthood travelling the world in search of truth, inspiration and nice people. His love of music was long frustrated by physical challenges that limited his potential. However, the discovery of modern music production software has liberated him from those restraints and he has entered into a prolific and rewarding era. The movie "Scarred", featuring Katt's first feature film score, was released worldwide September 2015. (His Soundtrack Album to "Scarred" is available in all major digital formats)  His first symphony is being published in progress and he continues to explore new avenues and projects.

Composer of multi-instrumental music, with a preference for longer, progressive and complexly arranged pieces.   

Have played guitar for 30+ years, but I am probably a slightly odd type of guitarist. Not particularily interested in the guitar genre, not too keen on listening to long solos, etc. I don't enjoy playing for people - a party-killer, in short. However, leave me alone with this wonderful tool (or the keyboard, which I play too), and I will start experimenting with it, searching for something to develop. 

Strongly interested in classical music and anything remotely related to that. I want to construct music with a similar structure and complexity, although with other instruments, and in my own way...

During 2010-2013, I worked on a suite of related pieces, GUITARS PLAYED BY DS, with every sound played on the electric guitar. A major undertaking, and (all-in-all) 45+ minutes long, all complexly related and released in five segments.

During 2014-2015, the main focus was on the full-format 'LONG INSTRUMENTAL', a progressive work with lots of different instruments and sounds, restless and complex. Recorded dark evenings, nights, and early mornings ...  Some sections stand on their own feet: QUARANTINE, MYSTERY, and FANFARE. 

The 2014-2015 recordings also resulted in two shorter pieces: CAMBRIAN EXPLOSION and CLUSTER OF WARNINGS.

During 2015 I initiated a suite played on classical guitars - GUITAR STRUCTURES. It is a series of slowly changing ideas, a weave of melodies and harmony, the first section out in April 2015 (the 2nd came 2 years later).  

I played guitars on Tolubai's wonderful ambient piece 'MEMORIES' (August 2015).

EARTHSHINE came out in January 2016; a darker and slightly dissonant progressive piece, and one of my personal favorites. So is SILENCE, out 1st July 2016. September 2016: IGNITION  with TOLUBAI and LET THERE BE LIGHT 22th Sept 2016 with PuppyWolf. 

20/11-2016: The OORT CLOUD PROJECT I-IX. An 18+ minutes long progressive synth-based instrumental, with lots of short guitar phrases integrated; related to the track Ignition. Took a year to record, a massive piece, based on variations on 2 themes from the first two minutes. Also, the spin-off PASSAGE was released. 

GROTESQUE released too in the end of 2016. The 19th January 2017, I released the sketch OMMA CONTRAPUNCTUS PROJECT. The 4th February 2017, the track '3 WORLDS COLLIDE' was released.

'Guitar Structure No. 2' out in March 2017, took 2 years to complete.

BEST OF 2 WORLDS was released in November 2017, another personal favorite composition.

APPROACHING: an unfinished sketch released 1st April 2018. TAURUS IV released 8th April 2018.

Lost my patience with the massive project CONQUEROR and decided to cancel it - released as a 'Bootleg' version in 2019(but there might be a part II later on).

New Years evening, quickly improvising a track: DECADE. Uploaded 23:58 local time. It was a very fun way of ending the year and I used a symbolic art cover with red sweeping in, but I wouldn't have dreamed of what was to come soon.

One main project this year is the SNOWFLAKES VARIATIONS suite; the Prelude was released in January 2020.

8th April 2020: sample of the big project CREATURES was released.

In the Lockdown March-April 2020, I recorded 'Era', out of frustration...

5th June 2020: REPORT FROM PLANET THREE, which was initiated 31st May 2019. It is probably the piece I am most satisfied with. 

31st July 2020: FORECAST was released. Upcoming 2021: SUMMER SNOWFLAKES, a 25 minute long track....

The profile name is a tribute to my favorite album of all time... Devin Townsend's Ocean Machine.

Zenlike Creature was initially set up as a side-project and born out of a love of the psychedelic music scene.

It could be said that this project is almost 30 years in the making since that wonderful summer of 93 and that first listen of the Ozric Tentacles 'Live Underslunky' album - it certainly opened more than just eyes! 

Since then it's been a continual music adventure hunting down bands and artists of similar style and genre. Whilst not always fruitful, there is a selection of bands/artists who have helped shape and influence Zenlike Creature and this work would not have happened without them: Ozric Tentacles, Gong, Shpongle, Steve Hillage, Eat Static, Hallucinogen, Pink Floyd, and Hawkwind. 

The bands/artists above have taken us on some fantastic musical journeys and adventures and Zenlike Creature hopes to take you on some similar journeys too.

A lover of great music in all it's forms who enjoys the challenge of bringing something new into the musical world and knowing the joy it can bring to all even through the darkest times.

I use a combination of my tried and trusted Fender Squier 50's Vibe Beach Blonde Telecaster guitar, my recent lucky find of a perfectly good Westfield Stratocaster copy, my Tanglewood semi-acoustic guitar, my Ovation Ukulele and a rather cheap and cheerful USB keyboard recorded directly on to GarageBand on my iPad via the iRig and Zoom Multi-stomp Bluetooth peddles. I have now added the brand new Zivix Jamstik+ to my instrument collection which is great instrument for adding depth, power and orchestration to my new recordings. I have now added my brand new Fender Kingman SCE Acoustic Bass Guitar to the mix.

My only rule for making music is that I give myself just 2-3 hours from conception, to recording, to mixing and editing the song before posting to Soundcloud. Please forgive me if some of my recordings are a bit sloppy and too short!

I suspect you all wonder why I play mostly reflective tunes. That may be due to the fact I seem to major at the minor chord?

I like to thank all the people who have stumbled on to my humble music, left kind encouraging comments and liked my offerings. Soundcloud is a wonderful place to meet like-minded people and rejoice in the spirit of a world family who all share the same musical values.

And remember. Live and cherish life as this is no band rehearsal!
