Old School Sequences (livetrack)

Dangerous Electricity Machine is Harbour Board’s spring 2025 single, blending bubbling analog synths, flutes, electric guitar, and layered percussion with baritone vocals from Matthew Sunderland. Originally composed as a soundtrack to a site-specific dance project by Jeffrey Holdaway, the track was later restructured by the full band into a multi-part narrative.

The lyrics reflect on fatherhood and suburban wandering, shifting through ambient sections, chorus-driven swells, and a brass-led bridge featuring a trumpet and saxophone call-and-response. Percussion builds from live drums, handclaps, and processed vocal textures.

Kudos to St. Regis eternal bandmate & friend Nick Tumler for never letting me forget this song (Love Transition) and its driving, determined changes, that Johnny Caswell (The Crystal Mansion) and I crafted into what should have become an R 'n B classic, one fine day in the QC booth at SIR's Gower Studios. "Is it me? "Is it you?" "Could it be it's really true...?"

Chaos I Bleed distills Grafenberg’s dark union of Anatolian psychedelic rock and surf-noir into two definitive versions. The Original Ritual Cut rides a hypnotic pulse—saturated bağlama tracing kilim-like figures, tremolo guitars shimmering in vintage reverb, analog synths flickering like incense smoke. The Anatolian Night Drive Remix pushes the horizon wider: bass forward, motorik undertow, tape-delay halos and phased motifs built for late-night motion. Across both takes, the vocal moves from whisper to flame, carrying a subversive tension between order and rupture, intimacy and insurgency.

“Swim To You” has a long and rather unique journey behind it.

The original piece was composed for a temporary art installation called "Shopping Bag". Back then, it was performed entirely on the Vermona Performer—some of those original sounds still remain in this new version.

I loved the textures so much that I decided to release it as a single titled "Swim To You". A singer-songwriter later added vocals, turning it into a calm, chill-out track.

Months later, I created a dance remix for my first vinyl album "Forget About The Music", where the track was also released as a single.

The song eventually reached Swiss artist "Ingeborg", who sent me a reel with spontaneous vocals recorded over "Swim To You". I loved it immediately, and together we developed a new version, which became a new song titled "Siren".

Ingeborg later reworked the Siren vocals again, transforming the piece into a completely new standalone track with the same title, carried by her extended vocal lines. It was released on August 25. 

Finally, when I began revisiting my older material as ambient reinterpretations, I returned once more to "Swim To You" and created a very small sample set of the stems. This latest version reshapes the song into an ambient soundscape, performed on the Solar 42F and Soma Cosmos.

Harbour Board is an Auckland-based band blending ambient, folk, experimental pop, and cinematic sound design. Grafenberg is a sonic explorer whose path spans from the DJ booth to the edges of contemporary electronic production. After two decades of collecting and spinning techno, minimal and deep underground records, he transformed that passion into a personal language of textures and contrasts.
