"Ravanhatta" is a hand-made bow string instrument rooted in the folk music traditions of Rajasthan. It is made from bamboo & coconut shell mainly by the artists themselves. Ravanhatta players (who are a vanishing breed) are called "bhopas" and they belong to the Nayak, Bhil or Thori castes of Rajasthan. This is an unplugged recital of an iconic Rajasthani love ballad... live from Meherangarh Fort in Jodhpur.

Since late 2014, I have been collaborating with Lutherios in their inspirational "Lyre 2.0 Project" - dedicated to reintroducing the wonderful lyres of antiquity back into the modern world, to make these beautiful instruments accessible to each and every modern musician:

This recording hopefully demonstrate why the kithara was so venerated in antiquity, as the instrument of the professional musician - perfect for both accompanying the human voice and for as an incredibly versatile solo instrument.

In particular, I attempt to demonstrate the wonderfully reconstructed 2500 year old vibrato mechanism, for which there is an almost overwhelming body of visual evidence to support this theory. All original illustrations of the ancient Greek kithara clearly show what appear to be curved springs beneath the yoke to which the strings are attached, with the top of the arms carved almost wafer thin, which almost certainly was to allow for lateral movement of the yoke and the attached strings, creating an eerie vocal vibrato effect - some 2500 years before the invention of the 'whammy bar' of the Fender electric guitar! 

The vibrato mechanism can be operated either by light lateral movement of either of the vertical wooden levers at each end of the yoke, or a more subtle vibrato can be achieved by pushing the discs either side of the yoke.

This first track from The Rock Gong Project made using ancient Rock Gongs found in central Tanzania with vocals and whistles recorded from the hunter gatherer Hadzabe tribe where we discovered the Rock Gongs.

This is drone ambient set I played @ Ambient Festival 2015 in Liběchov orchard and replayed it @ Yes Café in Prague (because recording from the festival got damaged). 
Nearly from the beginning the journey goes through various space/ritual/spiritual/desert/swamp/cave/jungle/arctic landscapes made of both electronic and traditional instruments (including singing bowls), with occasional voices, chants from ancient cultures.

Peace, meditation, contemplation, clarity and fascinating atmospheres…

I have been listening to this kind of music for over ten years and it never stops to amaze me...

Connected with music since childhood, when, being 4 years old, he organized his own cassettes collections, ranging from oldschool berlin electronic music, ambient and psychedelic rock to classical music. Allthough he studied piano and sound engineering, his approach to music was for a long time mostly receptive and collecting. He discovered psytrance and it's branches in year 2002 and after occasional visit of smaller parties, he was carried away by OZORA 2010 festival, where he heartily engorged psychedelic culture and it's atmospheres. Then in 2013 he co-founded production/deco crew WizArts, in 2014 and in 2017 became part of Fenix Festival production team.

Born to a Kenyan mother and Italian father, bought up in Kenya, Jahawi Bertolli is a young and talented natural history film maker specialising in the underwater world. Alongside working in Thailand for the highly acclaimed Oceans Below Video Production Company (where he was one of the 3 cameramen working on the new worldwide video campaign for The Professional Association of Dive Instructors (PADI) promo videos), he has also directed and filmed documentaries from the remote northern coast of Kenya to the Galapagos Islands in Ecuador. The main themes being environmental, marine and shark conservation. While a lot of his work is done scuba diving, he is also an experienced wildlife cameraman having grown up in the African bush. To top it all off Jahawi is also a record setting free diver and one of the few professional free diving videographers.

Alongside working as a cameraman Jahawi is also an accomplished music producer and score composer with a string of releases and remixes on well know record labels, such as ULTRA Records (USA), KOSMO Records (Germany), Solaris Recordings (UK) and Fatboy Slim's Southern Fried Records (UK); with whom he was also an A&R assistant for some time. On the film side of things, alongside his personal projects, Jahawi has composed music for the Professional Association of Dive Instructors (PADI), the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI), The East African Safari Rally and the World Agroforestry Institute (ICRAF) to name a few.

Michael Levy is a UK-based composer for the recreated lyres of antiquity, whose musical mission is to create an entirely new musical genre, which could best be described as a 'New Ancestral Music' - dedicated to creating new music for the recreated ancient lyre, featuring an exotic palette of ancient musical modes and intonations not heard for almost 2000 years.

Michael has collaborated with the Grammy award winning Canadian composer, Rufus Wainwright - Rufus musically incorporated one of Michael's "Hymn to Zeus"  in two scenes of his second opera, "Hadrian" - which premiered in Toronto on 13th October 2018.

In 2022, Michael collaborated with the iconic American artist, Jeff Koons – his music for recreated ancient Greek kithara is currently the main soundscape of Koon’s animatronic sculpture, “Apollo Kithara” (2020-2022) on view at DESTE’s Project Space on the Greek island of Hydra.

Composer and ethnic flutist, Carlos Carty condenses in his music the spirit of Mother Earth.
