This was the first landing of the Antarctic season for MS Fram, and gentoos had started to settle and do some courting.

Gentoo penguins in Yankee Harbour, South Shetland Islands, Antarctica - MS Fram - 31st October 2024

Chinstrap penguins (Pygoscelis antarcticus) in Orne Harbour, Antarctic Peninsula on 3rd November 2024. 

After a demanding hike on the steep snowy slope of Orne Harbour, the group reached the Chinstrap colony on the mountain edge and listened to them communicate.

Humpback whales (Megaptera novaeangliae) in Admiralty Bay, South Shetland Islands, Antarctica on 6th November 2024. 

During a science boat activity, some humpback whales passed close by. On the recording, it's possible to hear them blowing and communicating.

An ambient musical soundscape created for Into Ocean & Ice: Artists explore a changing Antarctica, which will be open at the New Zealand Maritime Museum between Nov 2024 and Aug 2025.

This piece utilises field recordings I captured during my visit to the wild and remote island of South Georgia in 2023 with Antarctic Heritage Trust. The piece has no defined beginning or end, and is accentuated in the space by location specific recordings.

The recordings were captured using a custom built 3d-printed parabolic microphone designed by my dear friends Tor and Jed. Thanks guys!
