Garo Gdanian is a death metal guitarist from Beirut, Lebanon. Thomas Burkhalter has been in contact with him since 2005, when he conducted his PhD research on underground music in Lebanon. This led to his book Local Music Scenes and Globalization: Transnational Platforms in Beirut, Routledge, 2013. In this interview, Gdanian speaks of his worry about not moving forward in life. The interview was conducted just after the 2006 war between Israel and Hezbollah. Today, Gdanian still lives in Beirut with his wife. He has a daughter, still plays metal music in the band Khavar, and runs a small music store called Dr. Musick.

Laurajane Smith est professeur d'études sur le patrimoine et les musées et membre de la Society for the Academy of the Social Sciences en Australie. Elle s'intéresse depuis le début de sa carrière à la politique du patrimoine. Elle est la fondatrice de l'Association of Critical Heritage Studies et est rédactrice en chef de l'International Journal of Heritage Studies depuis 2009. Elle est coéditrice générale, avec le Dr Gönül Bozoglu, de la collection Key Issues in Cultural Heritage de Routledge. En 2018, l'université d'Anvers (Belgique) lui a décerné un doctorat honoris causa pour ses mérites scientifiques et, en 2021, elle a reçu le prix du patrimoine de l'Association européenne d'archéologie. Michelle Myles started tattooing in 1991 when tattooing was still illegal in New York City. When tattooing was legalized in 1997 Michelle and Brad opened Daredevil Tattoo on Ludlow Street on the Lower East Side. We discuss with her the history of tattooing in New York, some of which she covers on her walking tour of the Bowery, and her own personal experience as a tattoo artist working in New York both before and after the tattoo ban was lifted. TAHN 33: Illegal Tattooing in New York with Daredevil Co-Owner Michelle Myles

Melodies in My Head is the new duo of Swiss music producer Daniel Jakob and anthropologist, AV artist, and founder of Norient Thomas Burkhalter. The lyrics are drawn largely from ethnographic interviews conducted with artists and thinkers in Asia, Africa, the Middle East, and Europe over the past fifteen years. They bear witness to the diverse emotions we all go through in turbulent times: hope, joy, ecstasy, depression, doubt, fear, and anger.

In the heart of Paris's museum land, neighbouring the Louvre and the Musée d’Orsay, a few minutes from the Grand and Petit Palais, the Palais de Tokyo and the Musée d’art moderne de la Ville de Paris, the Musée du quai Branly has an exceptional location on the banks of the River Seine, at the foot of the Eiffel Tower. The arts of Africa, Oceania, Asia, and the Americas now form part of the historical and artistic grand tour of the capital. The Musée du quai Branly is an innovative cultural institution - museum, educational and research centre, and public living space all in one. Built on one of the last available sites in the heart of Paris, the architectural design of this original project is the work of Jean Nouvel.
