Michigan Works! Association Wraps Up 2025 Annual Conference in Kalamazoo

The Michigan Works! Association successfully hosted its 2025 Annual Conference September 7–9 at the Radisson Plaza Hotel & Suites in Kalamazoo. The three-day event brought together workforce development professionals, employers, educators, policymakers, and community leaders to explore solutions for Michigan’s most pressing talent and employment challenges.

The conference opened Sunday with workshops, the Association’s annual meeting, and a networking reception at the Gilmore Car Museum, providing an engaging start for attendees to connect with peers and partners.

On Monday, the agenda featured keynote presentations from Sharon Gai and Dr. Christopher Laney, who offered insights into global workforce trends, leadership, and the future of employment. Attendees engaged in a variety of workshops covering workforce readiness, training strategies, and employer engagement. The Exhibit Hall was a focal point for building connections between businesses, service providers, and Michigan Works! agencies,  (and also where MBN recorded its interviews from). While networking opportunities such as the Dessert Break & Headshot Lounge further fostered collaboration.

The conference concluded Tuesday with workshops and a dynamic closing keynote from Dr. Sherene McHenry, emphasizing leadership, communication, and strategies to strengthen Michigan’s workforce ecosystem. An invitation-only Executive Breakfast also gave business and policy leaders an opportunity to exchange ideas in a more focused setting.

Across the three days, the conference highlighted the critical role of employment in economic development. Employers learned about the tangible costs of workforce gaps, explored innovative approaches to upskilling, and built partnerships to address talent shortages. The emphasis on collaboration positioned Michigan Works! as a vital connector between business needs and workforce solutions.

By drawing together leaders from across the state, the 2025 Annual Conference underscored Michigan’s commitment to building a stronger, more resilient economy through workforce innovation, business engagement, and talent development.

LANSING, Mich. — September 30, 2025 — The Lansing region welcomed hundreds of eager middle school students today, for the 3rd Annual Lansing Construction Science Expo, hosted in partnership by T3 (Teach. Talent. Thrive.), Capital Area Michigan Works!, and the ACEC Michigan chapter. Now in its 14th year overall, this is the third time the event has taken place in the Lansing area. The hands-on expo was held at the Impressions 5 Science Center and adjacent lots owned by the Lansing Board of Water & Light (BWL).

The expo gave students a unique opportunity to get their hands dirty with real construction tasks — from electrical wiring and bricklaying to heavy equipment simulators — under the guidance of industry professionals. The experience is designed to expose young learners to in-demand careers in the built environment and break down misconceptions about what careers in construction can be.

As a highlight, event organizers invited regional firms and infrastructure stakeholders, including the City of Lansing, BWL, and local engineering firms, to host activity stations and mentor students. The expo aligns with the American Council of Engineering Companies-Michigan’s commitment to support workforce development. “Getting students to pour a footing or wire a test circuit with their own hands helps remove fear of trades and opens their eyes to real opportunities,” said a representative from ACEC Michigan.

L' associazione, pur essendo “in cantiere” come idea già da aprile 2020, è nata ufficialmente il 13/02/2021 (giornata mondiale della radio...) con la voglia di divertirsi, aggregarsi (covid permettendo…) tra i soci (che presteranno il loro apporto come volontariato) e per far “rinascere” il comune di Gonzaga (frazioni comprese) dopo le privazioni che i cittadini hanno dovuto subire a causa della pandemia in corso. L’idea è quella di rifarsi alle “RADIO LIBERE” nate a metà degli anni ’70, per trasmettere informazione, cultura e musica di qualità (anche con sonorità meno consuete di quelle che “passano” nelle radio tipicamente commerciali) e ciò SENZA SCOPO DI LUCRO e per proporre iniziative culturali, coinvolgendo altre associazioni e ha in generale, la finalità di:
-realizzare programmi radiofonici musicali e d’informazione (precisando che l’associazione è totalmente apartitica e non sarà quindi permesso agli speaker e ospiti, oltre ad utilizzare un linguaggio blasfemo o altamente scurrile, conversare di politica); sono disponibili apposite pagine Facebook, Twitter, Instagram e YouTube ed un sito internet (nel quale sarà possibile con un semplice “click” ascoltare le trasmissioni dal proprio pc fisso o portatile) dove sarà inserito il palinsesto settimanale della radio, oltre che news relative agli eventi musicali culturali comunali e dei dintorni e, contingenza fondamentale, una APP scaricabile sui propri smartphone/tablet/pc dai sistemi operativi IOS (per iPhone), Android (per Samsung ecc ecc) e Huawei e che permetterà agli utenti di ascoltare la nostra radio comodamente in ogni luogo (anche all’estero).
