013 - Platipus Tribute Mix (Vol 1)

Pete Bromley has been Stoke On Trent's top House DJ since 1989 and it has been an interesting and varied journey for him! Resident DJ at Stoke's first successful Underground Dance night 'Introspective' back in 1989 he went on to play at the infamous Shelleys Laserdome as well as other influential clubnights across the UK. Pete's next residency was to be at the Freetown in Hanley which would see him play alongside DJ's like Sasha & Dave Seaman. This would become the stepping stone to his next residency, the legendary Golden. Pete was the main resident DJ at Golden for an amazing 11 years which saw him play with the worlds biggest DJ's bar none. During this time he played many guest appearances at places such as Cream, Renaissance, Ministry Of Sound and DJ magazine listed him as one of the most popular resident DJ's in the world, resulting in his Essential Mix live on Radio 1 alongside Pete Tong at Sankeys in 1996. Quite an accolade seeing as he has never bolstered his career with international gigs, remixes or a recording career as 99% of producer/DJ's do these days. After Golden's demise In 2003, Pete then went on to become one of the resident DJ's at Satchmo's which has now become part of Stoke clubbing folkelore and his position has been cemented over the last years as resident DJ for the Move and their parties at The Sugarmill, Spode Warehouse & The Underground  playing alongside Jamie Jones, Patrick Topping, Solardo, Skream, Annie Mac, Derrick Carter, Pete Tong, MK, Todd Terry, Seth Troxler, The Martinez Brothers, Steve Lawler, Hot Since 82, Eats Everything, Darius Syrossian,Micheal Bibi, Alan Fitzpatrick, wAFF,  Dimitri From Paris, Kenny Dope, Low Steppa, Dan Shake amongst dozens of House musics elite. My old man’s collection hit me early with Rammstein, Stereo MCs, Kraftwerk, and Beastie Boys — plus the shadowy echoes of Joy Division, The Smiths, and post-punk melancholy. My childhood was pierced by distortion and underground frequencies. In my teen years, Berlin’s subcultures pulled me into punk and metal, so I picked up a guitar. At 18, I played my first DJ gigs in the indie electronic pop scene and became a resident in various clubs over the following years.

Now, it’s called me deeper into electronic music — where I produce twisted sonic realms, mix eerie mashups, weave psychedelic textures, and drift between experimental movie soundscapes and meditative moods.

Lover of electronic music since 1992, I enjoy various styles of electronic music, including trance, progressive, techno, and electro. Based in Alicante with experience in France, the UK, and Switzerland, I recently arrived on the turntables in 2024 to pursue my passion.

I started going to clubs in the early 90s, right around the time when electronic music hit the clubs. The countless events of the early 90s and the completely new music style and the atmosphere of smoky caves were something completely new. At that time, vinyls and CDs were listened and bought to in record stores. The most famous of which in Finland was Street Beat run by DJ Joke (RIP). Jokke was also an amazing DJ and is considered the father of Finnish techno culture.

Certain radio programs were another way to discover new artists and music. Perhaps the most influential of these for me was Beatbox run by Aki Matilainen of Radio CITY. DJ Orkidea's first radio mix was also recorded here (which I still have on Beatbox's C-cassette number 18). At that time, almost all the money was wasted on record stores and luckily I have saved those records to this day. Elektronic music is still a big part of my life every day and I thought it would be great to bring out those old songs. Especially the ones that you don't usually hear on every mix. Inspired by this, I started making my own mixes and bringing out the songs that many younger people may never have heard before.

I personally like more melodic trance and my biggest favorites over the years have been:

From the labels Eye Q, Harthouse, Limbo, Perfecto, Platipus, Rising High and Superstition.

From the artists BT, Grace, Oliver Lieb, Jan Johnston, Matt Darey, Paul Oakenfold, The Space Brothers, Way Out West and definitely of course Scooter!

Most memorable events that I have experienced in club scene is in the early 90s, DJ Kid Paul live at Botta in Helsinki. Grace perfoming live (in 95 or 96) on the Big Bang (not 100% sure about this name) cruise from Helsinki to Stockholm. Last year was the first Luminosity Beach, where I finally saw The Space Brothers and Matt Darey live, amazing!
