Track made for the disquiet junto challenge with the theme 'Code Notes' - music that includes a secret message...

IDEA
The words code and message reminded me of a recent news story that scientists came up with a new message to send into space (meant for aliens out there), telling all about humanity. That got me thinking about the original Arecibo message;  an interstellar radio message carrying basic information about humanity and Earth, sent into space in 1974. And about the data (like sounds and images) we receive from the planet Mars and satellites so far away.

COMPO
I started with an E minor pentanonic scale. Once more I played with a generative tool and took a big chunck of that. The percussive/drum part felt very 'krautrock' or Michael Rother to me, so I went with that sound direction. I incorporated sound clips from NASA, such as the seismic activity on Mars, the passing of Jupiter's moon Ganymede and the Cassini satellite. And thinking of hidden messages in a song, I remembered about so called binaural beats, sounds that would alter the state of your brain. So there's a  relaxing ("alpha state") drone in there too. Lastly I added parts of the actual Arecibo message in audio form. It took two days, even less than I normally spend on these projects, so I guess it's not up to my normal standards, but I hope everyone still appreciates the effort.

Pulse for Pigments

I am very proud to present you my new preset bank for Arturia's Pigments synthesizer: Pulse.

I have now implemented the concept that I developed in 2020 with U-He's Hive "pulse for hive2", pulses for cinematic music, advertising trailers and the scoring of games, with Arturia's Pigments synthesizer.
Pigments enables very complex controls through the "function generator" envelopes. These rhythmically modulate filters, oscillator volume, grain parameters, effect parameters and much more.
The complex function generators interact with the mod wheel, which plays an important role in this sound set. All movements in the presets are largely controlled by the mod wheel.
With the preset "Comb Pulse" for example: it is possible to fade from a pulsating rhythm to a bandpass filtered pad.
Another good example is the preset "Decoupled". Here you can continuously slow down a 16th beat to a standstill and even transform the envelope of the function generator into a mirrored waveform.
"Pulse" is suitable for the accompaniment of film scenes, action scenes, for creating suspense, for game music but also for electronic music in general.

Making electronic music since the late 80's on Atari 520 STE using Notator Logic & Amiga, currently a small studio setup on the Kapiti Coast of New Zealand. Music is a mix of modular/semi/analogue/digital hardware synths, sequencers, and drum machines coupled with Logic Pro X for arrangement/mastering. Hope to help others setup and produce music as I continue to learn myself.

These are my honest attempts at experimenting with my hardware and software gear.  I am a big fan of synthesizers, 80s  music synthpop, and still in the learning process of mastering the complex notions of composition and sound design.
