무의식적 자동작용을 말한다. 앙드레 브르통이 창시한 초현실주의 시와 회화의 중요한 기법이다. 의식이나 의도가 없이 무의식의 세계를 무의식적 상태로 대할 때 거기서 솟구쳐 오르는 이미지의 분류를 그대로 기록하는 방법이다. 프로이트를 응용하여, 정신병 환자가 무의식적으로 지껄이는 상태를 비판이나 수정이 없이 그대로 기록하는 것을 말한다.

Program Notes:

A group of Québécois.e painters known as The Automatistes were inspired by the notion of surrealist automatism, valuing spontaneity of gesture and the unconscious mind in the creation process. What followed this fascination was an artistic movement rich with dynamic, abstract works, with each painting offering unique and striking contrasts of color and form. Through texture and harmony, I sought to translate these evocative visual contrasts into musical chiaroscuro in The Chiaroscurist: Five Contrasts for Pitch Black Night. Each of the short pieces in the set was inspired by a different painting by a Québécois.e artist working in the 20th century, including Jean McEwen, Paul-Émile Borduas, Jean-Paul Riopelle, Marcelle Ferron, and Claude Tousignant, the latter of which painted in a reactionary style to automatism, known as geometric abstraction. Four of the five paintings are part of the permanent collection of the Musée des beaux-arts de Montréal, while Ferron’s Ghost Hills is located in the Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal. This piano duo was commissioned by the Luba Zuk Piano Duo Composition Prize at McGill University.

does automatonism play well with others?  let's find out! here i'm integrating automatonism with another element in my production process, the excellent (and also free) synth, virtual ans.  the bulk of what you hear, all of the percussion, melodies, textures, and sfx (and everything you hear up to :30) are coming from automatonism.

i'm posting ambient and experimental pieces of music and "lab experiments" made with this great, capable pure data based synth by johan eriksson, which can run on macos, windows, and linux, on a laptop or on a raspberry pi,here.

The cut-up technique (or découpé in French) is an aleatory literary technique in which a text is cut up and rearranged to create a new text. The concept can be traced to at least the Dadaists of the 1920s, but was popularized in the late 1950s and early 1960s by writer William S.
