020223 Come And See

A friend of mine asked me if the sequencer of the Axe-Fx III could be "triggered by your playing using an ADSR or envelope". They were mainly interested in using a strong attack to keep things in sync with a live drummer, avoiding drift. I created the preset they needed, using an ADSR to trigger RUN on the sequencer and assigning it to a pitch shifter for kicks. I improvised this bizarre creation as a demo. Finding the line between "trigger" and "rest" wasn't too hard, as I had the ADSR threshold set quite high.

So it's been a bit quiet over here for the last few months but that's just because I've been on an absolutely massive writing spree. At some point during 2023 I started grafting electronic components into my music and it's been like pouring gas onto what was already a pretty raging fire, I've been writing new music like an absolute madman for a while now.

I'm up to 13 tracks in various states of development for the new album, most of them being pretty far along. It's to the point where the overall character of the album has shown itself and goddamn I'm excited to put this thing out. This has got to be my favorite collection of music I've ever made and adding electronic and hip hop elements has really felt like coming home, musically speaking. I feel like I've come closer to where I want my sound to be with this album than ever before.
