Ams after Hours

I first bought Traktor in 2009, and my journey with electronic music has been a series of on-and-off explorations ever since. While I’ve always claimed to play both house and techno, I have always in the past found myself primarily drawn to Techno. But recently, that has changed. I have been discovering a new voice and method to my madness. House music, born and refined by dancers and musicians, all seeking moments of poetry and divinity in the dance hall.  So here I am, doing something new! A mix that is entirely house music. I hope it makes you dance, or at least awakens the idea...

"Castles In The Sky is a two piece electronic pie with some guitar fillings and a thin synth crust with effect toppings."

Made up of Pune based college kids Shubham Mehra and Angad Bharaj, they're an electronic duo we have high hopes for in the future. Yet to find their "sound", they continue to experiment with both electronic and guitar elements, and aren't doing too badly at it either.

Their debut EP, 'Fugu Fish' was released via BandCamp at the start of the year. It found the duo find a kaleidoscopic beauty that will one day be their hallmark. Space, atmosphere and anticipation all build and through excellent use of restraint, blossom into something completely unexpected. The influence of producers such as Koreless, Four Tet, Caribou and Mount Kimbie are apparent at the very first listen, yet never do those influences feel intrusive.

Now don't get us wrong, we're not saying it's perfect. This album certainly is full of accomplishment and some truly stand out tracks, yet the mixing isn't fantastic and lack of proper mastering is exposed within seconds. But we see the light, and it's bright.

Much in the same vein this mix is a selection of outstanding tracks, from some of our favourite artists the world over, both new and old. Although the transitions aren't perfect, it makes for a great and varied listen, providing eyes into the depths of the crates of Castles In The Sky.

For a minute there, 
i lost myself.
This is a long term self improvement project. I was good once, maybe some day I'll be good again. 

I've primarily used this account to *listen* but I'm going to be using it to create, life is interesting like that, I hope you join me on that journey.

Carla is a mixed indigenous artist, born and raised in the high desert of New Mexico. Her childhood was immersed in live music growing up around a recording studio and professional guitarist father. Once she discovered raves in the desert around the late 90’s- early 00’s, it sealed her fate of true connection to freedom felt dancing with the unifying energy of a heavy drum beat. She started promoting and throwing dance events in her community. After coming to San Francisco and falling in love with the Bay Area, she began creating music and djing became her soul focus. 

She has been called a lineage holder because of her vivacious focus exclusively on the vinyl/analog format and artform of turntablism. Her skill is precision and the results are pure magic translated to a dance floor. A live performance by an artist who uses their actual ear to beat match instead of pushing a sync button is a rarity today, especially in a sea washed with technology and AI where quality in art is sacrificed for convenience. For the love of music and this culture Carla has committed her heart to vinyl and teaching others.

Producing music since 2006 and djing since 2009 her style ranges from house, acid, techno, break-beat, jungle/dnb and even into downtempo, ambient, experimental noise. Her sounds could be better described as esoteric, underground, syncopated & psychedelic. With cactus prickly pear as her backbone and red chile in her blood, she weaves messages about decolonization in her art and music. From working in a record store to hosting a vinyl radio show Carla has been a part of the dance community in many ways. The last few years have been a compression of creativity, hardwork and never ending days/nights in her music studio on drum machines, synths and hardware. Sonic lift-off is almost here with @disco-soldier records coming soon centering DIY artists and vinyl!
