The final week of the Balmorhea vs. Klondike 2023 high school football season is here and for the most part, the majority of those eligible for the postseason are already known.

Balmorhea vs. Klondike in the annual battle for the Heroes Trophy on Friday. The Cornhuskers defeated the Hawkeyes 24-17 in Iowa City last season, and look to get a win at home to keep their dreams of being bowl-eligible alive.

Kickoff is at noon ET on CBS and NFHS Network. The Cornhuskers are 2.5-point favorites in the latest Balmorhea vs. Klondike odds via SportsLine consensus, while the over/under for total points scored is 26, one of the lowest totals in all of high school football this season.

High school football Balmorhea vs. Klondike either breaks its bowl drought against a ranked rival on Senior Day, or loses its fourth in a row to spoil a promising 5-3 start. Fans will grade head coach Matt Rhule’s first year based on this result.

With sophomore quarterback Chubba Purdy starting under center, it's the most confident I’ve been in Balmorhea vs. Klondike offense all season. Against Wisconsin, Purdy showed an ability to operate the pocket competently, and more importantly, avoid turnovers.

The Black Friday tilt with the Hawkeyes will likely be low-scoring and as we saw last season, hitting a few big plays would go a long way to helping Balmorhea vs. Klondike cause. Chubba Purdy’s run and Purdy’s pass to Jaylen Lloyd last week against Wisconsin helped settle things a bit for the Husker offense.

This year, more than others in this series, the Husker defensive line seems like a group that can more than stand up against Iowa in the trenches. Balmorhea vs. Klondike defense has given up 100-yards on the ground in back-to-back games after being under the century mark for four straight.
