“Adeste Fideles,” known in English as O Come, All Ye Faithful, is traditionally attributed to the English Catholic hymnist John Francis Wade (1711–1786).
Wade fled to France after the Jacobite uprisings, and the earliest manuscript in his hand dates from the mid-1700s.

Because the Latin text praises a “faithful” people coming together in hope and loyalty, some historians have suggested that Wade intended the hymn as a coded Jacobite anthem supporting the exiled Stuart dynasty. In this reading:

“Fideles” (“the faithful”) = Jacobite supporters

“Regem Angelorum” (“King of Angels”) = veiled reference to Bonnie Prince Charlie

The triumphant tone = longing for restoration

There’s no absolute proof, but the theory fits Wade’s political sympathies and has become one of the carol’s most intriguing legends.

Regardless of its origins, the carol became widely known after appearing in Cantus Diversi (1751) and later through the English translation by Frederick Oakeley (“O Come, All Ye Faithful”). Today it remains loved for its bold, communal, uplifting melody — a tune that feels triumphant whether sung in English or in Wade’s original Latin.

On Bright Days — Giovanni Gastoldi (duet for two baritone ukuleles)
A bright, quick-stepping dance from the late Renaissance, originally published in Giovanni Gastoldi’s Balletti of 1591 — a collection famous for its clear rhythms, cheerful refrains, and light-hearted spirit. These pieces were loved across Europe and inspired later composers from Morley to Hassler.

In this modern two-ukulele arrangement, the music keeps its original character: joyful, buoyant, and full of sunlight. The interlocking lines of the duet create a lively dialogue, like two voices trading steps in a shared dance.

This recording is my small offering to the arranger, whose music brings people together day after day.

When I set out to create an album, it’s rarely just a collection of songs. I approach it like a personal playlist — one that drifts and flows as if the entire tracklist were one long, uninterrupted piece. Each track leans into the next, shifting mood, pace, or voice, but always carrying the same thread of feeling. I want you to listen the way I do — not as a shuffle of moments, but as a cinematic arc. One breath that lasts an hour.

Lyrically, my work is rooted in lived experience. Sometimes it’s obvious. Other times it’s just the skeleton of a memory, dressed up in wit, irony, or longing. I draw from real-life events, then let the poet in me twist, stretch, or sweeten them to taste. Depending on the tone of the album — playful, romantic, nostalgic, or something in between — I try to keep the emotional truth intact while giving it a fresh coat of creativity. My newest jazz album continues this tradition — short-lined swing tracks, conversational duets, and tongue-in-cheek storytelling. It’s an homage to late-night alleyway ballads, rooftop serenades, and train station goodbyes — all bound together with a sense of charm and cohesion. Each song is its own little scene, but together they tell a story — one you can revisit with each replay.

King Luan has consistently been on the laser cutting edge of the burgeoning music genre popularly known as “adult abstractia”. Their synth-laden music overlaid with mystical, arcane lyrics has enchanted hipster Burning Man throngs and zealous Mystery Cult adherents for the past few years.

Their latest offering, “No Vampires Remain in Romania (Dracula Spectacular)”, is a quirky yet vitriolic indictment against populist vampire entertainment (yes, I’m talking to you “Twilight”, “Vampire Diaries” and “True Blood”!).

When lead vocalist Hugh Wilson spews “I am not your objet d’art…I am not your sepia heyday” (complete with faux Eastern European affectations and trilled r’s aplenty), it’s enough to compel the listener to rip down and burn every Robert Pattinson poster in morbid shame.

But, just before the party devolves into utter gloominess, in comes the poppy chorus with its disco bass and 80’s New Wave ebullience. Hey, vampirist also-rans and after-dead wannabes, no need to wallow; there may be no more vampires in Romania but that doesn’t mean you can’t don your black robes and dance until the sun rises. Then, it’s back to the crypt (you know, just in case).
