Frederick the Great of Prussia loved music deeply and set aside several hours each day to compose and to improve his flute-playing skills. This sonata is a good example of his level of virtuosity and his methodical compositional style. Recorded live in concert.

Colin Jardine is an Early Music performer on Recorder and Baroque Flute.
His first instruments, as a youth, included trumpet, trombone, e flat horn and piano.  
He undertook a broad range of studies and masterclasses in Germany, Holland, Italy and the UK with (amongst others)Andrea Haufele,  Gabi Bultman, Walter van Hauwe and Kees Boeke. On the Baroque flute, he took several years of tuition in London from the flautist  G. Browne. He also took private lessons and took part in several masterclasses with and Rachel Brown. He originally started as a representative for Hans Schimmel - Amsterdam in 1988, but then opened and successfully managed his own  'Early Music Shop' in Berlin/ Germany from 1991 - 2005.
There, over a period of years, he regularly organised Masterclasses with such world-leading soloists as Dan Laurin, Han Tol, Marijke Miessen and many others.
As a musician, he has performed at international festivals in Europe and as far as Asia (Japan), performing with Prof. Mino Yoshizawa, Hiroshi Fukuzawa and Prof. Yoshiko Kojima at the prestigious Toho Gakuen Music College in Tokyo. Also on the Island of Fukuoka - in southern Japan.
In 1995 he had the honour to be nominated as an adjudicator for the 'National Youth Music competition' "Jugend Musiziert" in Berlin-Germany.
Over the years he has been invited to give talks on the subject of historical Woodwind Instruments at universities and conservatories in the UK, Germany, Holland, Austria, France, Italy, Switzerland and Liechtenstein.
He founded the Ensemble "Concerto Berlin - EFAM "   in 1994, and went on to make several CD recordings with them.
He has been invited to perform as a soloist for several other baroque orchestras in Europe, performing J.S. Bach and Antonio Vivaldi concerti for the recorder. He has organised several concerts with Concerto Berlin - EFAM to help raise money for the homeless living in Berlin Germany.
As an enthusiastic music teacher, he welcomes adult students of any level and anybody interested in learning music.
After living in Germany for 28 years he returned to the UK in 2006 and studied Historical Flute production under Mathew Dart from 2007 - 2013 at the Metropolitan University in London, where he successfully made historical replicas of models such G.A. Rottenburgh (ca. 1760). He currently lives in London - West Wimbledon - UK

I am an amateur musician with a particular interest in performing or otherwise producing Renaissance music by electronic means. In my posted tracks, I have used acoustic instruments (recorders), an electronic wind controller (Akai EWI USB), and step-time sequencing, in various combinations. Many of my tracks were produced in the late 1980’s with the Yamaha CX5M music computer, but they were never published in any form until 2011.

Residing in the Netherlands, Russian flutist Katja Pitelina is a skilled and versatilemusician who creates beautiful concert programs, successfully combining both a modern and historically informed performance.

"Classical and Beyond"
Linda Shumas made a mighty entrance to the Toronto scene in 1984, with a solo recital at the Trinity-St. Paul's Centre. In the decades that followed, she concertized and gigged just about anywhere she could find a piano, including every incarnation of the Music Gallery from 1087 Queen West onward. Recent duet, trio and chamber ensemble forays have borne fruit in her awesome musicianship, carrying over into her solo work. 

Unlike her 1985 LP "Voices from the Cloisters" (later releaed on compact disc by Phoenix Records #1369.ID), Shumas concentrates here mainly on the work of other composers. Rameau, Couperin, Scarlatti and Haydn represent the 17th and 18th Centuries in this collection, and Shumas certainly gives a good account of the music. Rachmianinoff and Scriabin give us her perspective on the early 20th Century idiom, much closer to her own style, but never overwrought.

Shumas' producer Nick Peros contributed five(of his seven)Poemes, and Linda matches those with five of her own All the music is excellent with L'Ocean Reve the standout in creative shaping of beautiful phrases.

Of interest to audio purists, this Cd was recorded in a small room on a very large piano, and a non Steinway at that. Three subtly different perspectives come from three sound engineers, one of them being the legendary Paul Hodge. Tuners are not credited here. The Cover picture is by Jan Thorp. "New Releases"
Though the cut line reads Classical, this isn't a collection of miniatures from the classics;at least not yet. The compositions are, save an encore by Bach, all by Miss Shumas. They could become classics after a passage of time but for now, they're original, wonderfully fresh and well worth custom. The question begged after listening to the album is whether Linda Shumas is a tasteful composer who plays beautifully or a fine pianist with a gift for delicate composition. What a delicious quandary. There are 17 tracks, all delicate, all evocative of titles such as The Moors, Dance of the Anemones and the cover to mention a few. Listening to them, one is mindful of Chopin and Debussy being performed by Alec Templeton. A kudo too for the singing of Patricia Swan on Lullabye for Jessye Norman. This is an album that deserves to do well. - RPM Magazine
