أسدلت الستارة السوداء ، وتوهج القلب من الخوف ، فبات طريق العودة أحمراً قاتماً ، وأحجار الطرقات تأن بأصوات من رحلوا ، رُدمت الذكريات وتمزقت الصور، وقذفتني الأمواج إلى عالم المجهول ، فلفظتني الحياة في دوامة الغربة ، وطوتني السنين في عتمتها ، ولكن بثت الحياة في الروح من جديد، فانبعثت الصحوة في الأعماق ، وتلمست الخواء في داخلي، ماهذا هل انتهى كل شئ ، هل يجب أن أبقى مكبلة بقيود الألم ،فأجابتني صرخة ٌ خرجت من جذوري ، إنهضي شامخةً وخيطي جراحك بمسلة الأمل وإغرسي جذورك في الأرض ليضئ نور طريقك الجدي

When I heard that Syria was finally free from the Assad regime after 60 years of dictatorship and 14 years of struggle, I was overwhelmed by a wave of emotions—joy, fear, and anger, all at once. How can we celebrate when we are still grieving the loss of so many lives over these 14 years? How can I feel happiness when children in Gaza are being shot? How can I find joy when Sudanese women are taking their own lives to avoid the horrors of rape? How can I see any light in this darkness?

Is it wrong to feel relief, even for a moment? How can I embrace joy while being so deeply aware of the pain around me?

Can happiness truly exist in the midst of so much suffering? I don’t have an answer. But I do know that joy is not a betrayal—it’s a form of resistance. We must hold space for both sorrow and joy because, if we stop seeking the light, what’s left to fight for?

Are we ever going to experience freedom if we’re not all free?

Is this the burden we must carry as Arabs? Is our happiness always intertwined with pain and suffering? There is no simple answer to this paradox—only an internal conflict that we must navigate.
