MASS Sessions #263 | HAFS

HAFS (standing for Hate At First Sight) is the name of the last techno project of Maël Capilla Sanchez from Brussels, Belgium. He grew up playing acoustic jazz and classical music and slowly decided to move towards techno deejaying in 2017.

His sets are made of a strange blend: harsh, rhythmic, melodic, full of drums, passion, and a dark undertone. The styles explored are mainly rave and industrial. In general, HAFS always aims to look far beyond his style with music while exceeding the standards.

We can say HAFS’ Techno style is influenced by producers like Brecc, Electrorites, Gijensu, Ryuji Takeuchi, WarinD & Endlec. The idea behind his project is to make sets that sound longer than they actually are with hypnotic melodic effects and harmonies.

The DJ was invited to various big events like LaMonarch Paris, in bars like the famous Berlin-inspired Liebe on Montmartre (Paris), and the Barrio cafe in Brussels.

He has collaborated with event crews like Optimal Bass (Belgium), Distorsion events, part of Chill2chill (Belgium) and Hard Kapital (Colombia). HAFS has travelled to Russia in December 2022 to play in Moscow for Monasterio.

In addition to that, HAFS has already taken over various techno podcast shows like Monasterio Chamber Podcasts, Techno Cartel, earlier in 2020: Shifted Radio (podcast channel of the Flesh and Hammers label) based in Los Angeles US, Beastmode Kollektiv (Frankfurt), Voltkick (emergent Belgian techno crew) and Tracks Insanas in 2021 (techno label based in Goiânias, Brazil) among others …

HAFS is the son of the Mexican versatile & experimented artist Candido Capilla. In parallel with his techno activities, Maël and his father run a Latin folkloric music band show with the collab of other artists. 

Finally, fresh mixes, international surprising tour dates, crew collabs, event hosting and maybe (why not?) his first track release is what you can expect from him.

21.01.23 we celebrated Sam & Richie's birthdays @thefoxandfirkin hired out the marquee (I know January... bloody freezing!) some of the crew spun some tunes, we all braved the cold & partied into the evening, seeing in their big-ones avin it properly!!!
