Following his touted 2024 release MP3, Portland based composer and producer Matthew Pepitone returns with MP4—a bold and enveloping new album that expands the scale, scope, and imagination of his work.

Where MP3 explored longform ambient soundscapes, MP4 takes the next step forward: bigger, more diverse, and more cinematic in scope. The project embraces minimal structures, shifting tonalities, and playful references that push Pepitone’s practice into new territory.

Drawing inspiration from Berlin-school masters like Klaus Schulze, Klaus Wiese, and Mathias Grassow—MP4 pays homage to the pioneers of drone and minimalist sequencing while charting its own adventurous course. Pepitone filters these influences through his obsession with modular synthesis, incorporating tongue-in-cheek nods to gear culture, YouTube influencers, and the often absurd rituals of music-making.

Equally self-aware, introspective, and playful MP4 weaves together unexpected references: from pop culture, mass market icons, and lesser know content creators. These moments highlight Pepitone’s unique ability to balance deep craft with humor curiosity, and a wide range of emotions challenging perceptions of what soundscape can be while celebrating the joy of experimentation.

The result is an album that is at once epic and intimate, reverent, and irreverent; a visionary furtherance of Pepitone’s sonic universe. With MP4, he invites listeners into a space that feels not only heard, but seen: a sprawling dreamscape whose vision remains long after the final note dissolves.

Als Chloroplast bezeichnet man Zellen die Photosynthese betreiben. Eisn wesentlicher Bestandteil ist das Chlorophyll. Von ihnen haben die Pflanze ihre grüne Farbe.
Dieser Song ist dem Verein für Elektronische Musik gewidmet, der schallwende e.V. Im diesen Jahr habe ich die Eher auf der jährlich erscheinen schallplatte vertreten zu sein. Die Schallplatte 28 ist gerade erschienen und auf ihr ist das Stück Nr. 7, mit dem Namen Chlrophyl B, welches aus meiner Feder stammt, enthalten. Ich gratuliere hiermit auch allen anderen Teilnehmern der Scene für die ausserordentlich gelungenen CD. Als Dankeschön für die Teilnahme gibt es diesen Track "Chloroplast".

Chloroplasts are cells that perform photosynthesis. Chlorophyll is an essential component of these cells. They give plants their green colour.
This song is dedicated to the Association for Electronic Music, schallwende e.V. This year, I have the honour of being featured on their annual record release. Schallplatte 28 has just been released and includes track no. 7, entitled Chlorophyll B, which I wrote. I would like to congratulate all the other participants in the scene for this exceptionally successful CD. As a thank you for participating, here is the track ‘Chloroplast’.

Vancouver-based synthpop/darkwave artist recording as Children of the CPU

My current musical project consists of composing music and tagging other artists, regardless of their genre. In recent years, I've discovered great talents, both professional and amateur, self-taught like myself. I also want to highlight musicians who stand out for their beautiful songs. Solar Phasing is a French composer and sound designer specializing in ambient, experimental electronic, and modular synthesis. His music is crafted for immersive experiences across TV, documentaries, video games, and art installations, offering listeners a journey through sonic landscapes that are both meditative and exploratory.

Space, introspection, emotional resonance, slow-evolving textures, minimalistic rhythms, and atmospheric depth.  Rich in modular synthesis, tuned frequencies (notably 432 Hz), and sonic experimentation.

His style is eclectic but always rooted in sound design and emotional resonance. If you're into artists like Brian Eno, Steve Roach, Boards of Canada, or early Aphex Twin, you might find Solar Phasing’s work intriguing..

After 2002 switching to Cubase and later Renoise, which is the current tool I use today.
In the 1990's I released many demos on Commodore Amiga where I mainly programmed and made the music. Its all history now.

I returned after the hearing loss (deaf in the right ear) and a long abstinence to electronic music in 2014/16.
While I used to make music exclusively on hardware synthesizers in my early days, a number of virtual instruments are now in use. My DAW is Ableton Live with a lot of Plugins ;-)
For many years, I have only been able to hear on one hearing. This makes it difficult for me to mix them but I give my best.
Besides music, photography is my great passion, that's also where my artist name comes from. Therefore all pictures and photos that can be seen on Sondcloud are my own work.
