YES, there is MADNESS in MARRIAGE. NO, things are not PERFECT all this time.
Jesus, in the gospels, alluded to the MYSTERY of marriage - two joining together to become one flesh; they are no more two, but one flesh (spiritually one being, one person, one whole). We can't get anymore MYSTERIOUS than that. Paul repeats this truth in Ephesians when he compares this remarkable joining when relating Christ and the church. He calls it a MYSTERY.

But LET"S BE HONEST! There is a MADDENING or a MADNESS that can occur with the joining of two very unique, very different, independent, environmentally, socially as well as spiritually defined, individuals. Don't you think that's that why Jesus put the stipulation in there, to both command and encourage us, that "what God has joined together let no man put asunder?" We may initially have the natural tendency to fight the spiritual "joining".  Wanting our our way, guided by our own expectations, driven sometimes by selfish tendencies, wanting to tear ourselves apart from each other instead of working to seal the God given bond.

But as we allow the Lord to temper us, guiding us by His Word through the mysterious journey of marriage, we will experience those places of rest, as we learn to appreciate how well we have blended, how well we complement each other, what remarkable things we can accomplish as we function as a unit. We love each other better and forge through challenges stronger. The madness begins to dissipate and we learn to embrace the mystery.
