Before its name

Equations of Time is the scientific counterpart to Equations of the Heart from Cold Touch, merging math, physics, and philosophy into a song that forces the listener to question the very nature of time itself. Unlike traditional songs that treat time as an emotional force, this track deconstructs it mathematically, proving that time is a function, a formula, an equation to be solved.

The opening verse immediately breaks down the misconception of time as just the ticking of a clock. Instead, time is velocity, acceleration, and distance divided. It is measured, calculated, and manipulated—yet it remains untouchable. The song begins with cold precision, defining time using scientific laws, but as it progresses, the reality of time’s power and inevitability becomes more sinister.

The second verse introduces time dilation, the mind-bending reality that time does not move at the same speed for everyone. If you push past space, time slows down. If you enter a black hole, time warps entirely. Einstein’s theory of relativity proves that the faster you move, the less time affects you. This revelation is both terrifying and exhilarating—if time is just a function, could it one day be controlled? Could it be stopped? Could it be escaped?

The third verse shifts focus to entropy, the mathematical proof that everything falls apart. Atoms decay, energy burns out, and yet time remains unaffected. The past and future are measurable, but the ultimate question is posed—if time is so precise, so calculated, then where do we fit on its graph? Are we just variables in an equation we never wrote?

The bridge takes this existential crisis further, whispering unsettling questions—if time is motion, what is stillness? If time is measured, where does it end? If time is endless, why do we fear death? It challenges the listener to confront the terrifying truth: we are trapped inside an equation we do not control.

The song’s final moments hammer in the ultimate realization—time is not a mystery, but an absolute law. It does not bend to emotion, it does not care for dreams or fears. It simply moves forward, calculating every second until it reaches the end.

As the sister song to Equations of the Heart, Equations of Time takes the same unique fusion of music and math and twists it into something mechanical, unrelenting, and deeply existential.
