bhandahu hovai dostee bhandahu chalai raahu.

bhand mu-aa bhand bhaalee-ai bhand hovai banDhaan.

so ki-o mandaa aakhee-ai jit jameh raajaan.

bhandahu hee bhand oopjai bhandai baajh na ko-ay.

naanak bhandai baahraa ayko sachaa so-ay.

jit mukh sadaa salaahee-ai bhaagaa ratee chaar.

naanak tay mukh oojlay tit sachai darbaar.



From woman man is born; within woman, man is conceived; to woman he is engaged and married.

Woman becomes his friend; through woman, the future generations continue.

When the woman in a man’s life dies, he must seek another woman; for he is bound to woman.

So why call her bad who gives birth to kings?

From woman, woman is born; without woman, there would be no one at all.

O Nanak, only the True Lord is without a woman.

The mouth which praises the Lord continually is blessed and beautiful.

O Nanak, those faces shall be radiant in the Court of the True Lord.

 



Yogi Bhajan said that through this shabd one “develops reverence and sacredness in relationships with women. It takes away mother phobias and anger.” It honours the divine mother.
