
A musical journey through the mind of Synth Nicolas, a trippy trip filled with a mix of melodic emotions , heavy and deep bass lines. Cheerfully Tropical , Deeply house , a hint of techno and most importantly... very loony. These tracks were all made after my daily 9 to 5 job, often until late at night. This album is like my musical child and the style represents my intense, fiery but sometimes sensitive character. This was a seed that Chris came up with on his acoustic guitar, adding beats, and some subtle vocals, then shared with Josh and Stephen. They are always excited to work on Chris' songs, because he always comes up with magical tunes.
  Josh was first in line, adding his five string fretless bass, then the organ part. Stephen used Josh's chord structure to come up with his awe-inspiring, monster electric sitar part. After they both laid down their parts, Chris added the electric guitar you hear at the beginning, too. 
  The song was about twice the current length when Chris made it, but Josh chopped off the second half, as the crescendo fits right into the 2/3 slot now. This was mixed as a team effort in BandLab, too, which is a rarity, given both Stephen and Chris are expert producers. 
  This is an example of a song Chris came up with, that was taken to the next level by Josh and Stephen. We hope you enjoy listening to this as much as we enjoyed creating it.

“Pick Up the Fight” is one of the most forceful and charged songs on So Little, Close to Nothing. Built on stomping rhythms and razor-edged guitars, the track channels the feeling of being kept small, beaten down, or dismissed by forces larger and more corrupt than you, who manipulate everything to their own advantage. The song moves from frustration to clarity, from exhaustion to resolve, recognizing that waiting for fairness is futile. Change only happens when you seize it.

Lyrically, it’s a blunt confrontation with systems of greed and power: being “kicked in the guts,” “dragged through the mud at night,” and realizing that “too much is enough.” The repeated call — time to pick up the fight — becomes both mantra and ignition point. Musically, it mirrors that arc: tense and grinding in the verses, then erupting into a cathartic, anthemic release in the choruses.

Where other songs on the album explore introspection, memory, or internal shifts, “Pick Up the Fight” is outward-looking and defiant. It’s the moment where acceptance turns into action — a reminder that resignation isn’t the only path forward, and that pushing back, even imperfectly, is its own form of survival.

Welcome to my page, my peers, associates, friends, and musical family. I'm a lifelong, multi-instrumentalist musician who records prolifically and joyfully. You'll hear me play guitar, bass (regular four string, and four and five string fretless), mandolin, banjo, keys (piano, organ, synth), lap slide, sitar, and sing on my recordings here. I've been in a few dozen bands in my life, playing everything from bluegrass, jazz, rock, jam band, reggae, funk, afrobeat, Middle Eastern, traditional Irish, singer/songwriter, pop/covers, to experimental/avant garde. 
  Since I found SoundCloud a couple years ago, I've found many talented, creative people with whom to create music. However, in the summer of '23 I formed a band called The Eclectic Collective with some of my favorite musicians I've met through here. It started as a loose collective of musicians and coalesced into a core group of musicians who find other musicians with whom we'd like to make music, then run their songs through our process, and in effect add a full band. That core of The Eclectic Collective includes Tez (Llanpsych), J.J. Terrel, Ken (K2 and the Three), Stephen (Texmex Shaman), Chris (cgmaness), and Mark (mistermark). A couple of other musicians are frequent collaborators, as well, including Artur of Surfers Like Us, and Steve Vervaet of Steve's World. More recently, we've been joined by Carl of The Beautiful Dark fame. 
  The magic of music is amplified exponentially by each person adding to it. So, we really try to add our sorcery all kinds of music from all kinds of artists. Sometimes, we keep it within the group, but a lot of what we do is collaboration with other artists. Therefore these days, 100% of what I do is collaboration, within the group or with other artists on the side.
  I, and we, are also available for hire if you have a song or lyrics and you really want to add bigger instrumentation or a band and good production to it.

 I'm overjoyed to have found my community on SoundCloud. This is a truly unique forum where everyone is sincerely trying to build each other up. The profoundly supportive and positive SoundCloud community has really opened up an exciting new world of collaboration for me. That is the main reason I'm in the Cloud, actually, to connect with other musicians and make music that I enjoy listening to, and hopefully others do, as well. I am ALWAYS looking to collaborate with interesting musicians, mostly though BandLab, which is where I record almost exclusively. It's a solid, free digital audio workstation hub where you can share recording projects, even if it's not where you make your recordings.
  Everything I do is live instrumental, not programmed, and using no computer beyond my phone. That's not to say that I would be opposed to using that kind of tool, it's just not my preferred medium with which to paint. If you like my music, please share it. Eternatease is an electronic music producer from the Netherlands.
He creates various styles of music, ranging from ambient to rave music.

Born in 1965. First introduction to electronic music around 1977 with Oxygène by Jean-Michel Jarre. First live gig: Klaus Schulze, 1983.

He always loved electronic music, like Tangerine Dream, Kraftwerk, Logic System, Jean-Michel Jarre, Art of Noise, Vangelis, Giorgio Moroder productions, Yello, Thomas Dolby, Paul Hardcastle, Gary Numan, synthrock like Saga, synthpop like Scritti Politti, Propaganda, Ultravox, Talk Talk.

Between 1989 and 1997 he was an underground deejay in the local scene playing various styles, but mainly the harder techno and trippy acid.

Eternatease also created music with several friends between 1989 and 1997.
Because he couldn't really reach the level and quality that he liked, had limited equipment, and basically lost his inspiration, he took a break from making music for almost 25 years.

Late 2021 he got his groove back after playing around with a Bitwig demo for a weekend.
The production virus grabbed him again, and he began creating music again, entirely with software.
He mainly makes music with free software and free plugins, and some paid, often until late at night or even until after sunrise sometimes.

Evolving producer / composer, focused on soundscape-oriented, frequency-minded music, with frequent travels into the minimal, atmospheric and pounding. I want my tracks to work for dancing, sleeping, meditating, and blissing - or any combination of the above.  I am ultimately focused on nervous-system entrainment, experimenting with the edges of that practice through both aggressive and gentle rhythms, ignoring genres as much as I can. But I assume most people would call most of it somewhere between ambient, techno (full spectrum between soft and hard), house, and downtempo. 
I am basically using SoundCloud as a journal. I am uploading the tracks I make that I think I like - even if I don’t think they are done. I am hardly mastering or editing the tracks, since my obsession for now is getting in touch with the sounds that are in my head  and heart and gain confidence that I can turn them into music.

Joshua David Thayer has been a performing musician for 35 years, primarily as a bass player for bands including Love Minus Zero, Fancy Trash, Hadley Transfer Station, and Slumberland. He has also performed with artists such as Mark Mulcahy, TW Walsh, Dennis Crommett (Winterpills), Joshua Crane, and Treefort and shared stages with 4 Non Blondes, Juliana Hatfield, The Jayhawks, DeVotchKa, Jesse Malin, and many more.
