A Simple Mix of one of Billy Graham's Sermons

Si hay un año en que era evidente que la juventud se había vuelto al cristianismo es 1971, según el reportaje que sirvió de portada a la revista Time –el principal semanario de información general en Estados Unidos desde 1923–, bajo el título de “La Revolución por Jesús”. Aunque revistas como “Rolling Stone” observa ya desde el año anterior la continua presencia de “Locos por Jesús” (Jesus Freaks) en todo el país, es ahora cuando el gran público americano se hace consciente de la presencia de los que el editor de “Christianity Today”, Carl Henry, llamó “hippies evangélicos”.

1971 es también el año del fenómeno de “Jesucristo Superstar”, la ópera rock estrenada entonces en Broadway. La obra de Andrew Lloyd Webber fue un intento de aprovechar la popularidad de la Gente de Jesús. La escribe Tim Rice para el teatro, antes de que Norman Jewison hiciera la película en 1973. Se estrenó en Nueva York después de grabarse el disco con Ian Gillan de Deep Purple como cantante. Curiosamente, el protagonista de la obra de teatro Jeff Fenholt (1950-2019) tuvo luego una conversión que recibió mucha publicidad por los tele-evangelistas que lo presentaban como cantante de Black Sabbath, relacionado con el ocultismo.  Desde el principio se enfrenta a la oposición de religiosos, tanto cristianos como judíos. Para los primeros, su visión de un Jesús meramente humano fue recibida como blasfema e irreverente, pero para la industria del entretenimiento no hay mala publicidad: “¡Qué hablen de ti, aunque sea mal!” 

Lo sorprendente es que el evangelista Billy Graham la utilizara para introducir, positivamente, la pregunta de quién es Jesús en sus predicaciones durante las campañas de 1971. Escuchamos la voz del predicador hablando del Superstar en un sermón en Chicago en 1971, después de oír la canción de Judas a la que hace referencia, pero en la versión española de Teddy Bautista. Hablamos también sobre 1971 con el mayor historiador de la Revolución por Jesús, Larry Eskridge, cuya investigación ha publicado la Universidad de Oxford. Los comentarios de José de Segovia tienen la música de fondo de Stanley Turrentine, Bob James e Isaac Hayes. Las canciones son "1971" del grupo actual de alabanza de las comunidades de Silo y "Bienaventurados" del disco del grupo Lazarus en aquel año.

Revolución por Jesús (12) - Al trasluz con José de Segovia

El festival de Woodstock en 1969 da nombre a toda una generación que sigue los ideales del movimiento hippie. Aquellos “tres días de paz y música” fueron toda una celebración de la contracultura. La respuesta cristiana no podía ser una mera defensa de los valores tradicionales. Debía ser la Revolución por Jesús. Y Explo ´72 fue el intento evangélico de apropiarse de este movimiento en un festival que reunió a 85.000 jóvenes en Dallas del 12 al 17 de junio de 1972, con 180.000 personas en los conciertos que lo cerraron, todo el sábado. Godstock lo empezaron a llamar en un juego de palabras entre Dios y Woodstock.  

En este programa de radio "Al Trasluz" escuchamos grabaciones de noticias sobre el festival, así como la actuación del grupo que tenía el productor Michael Omartian entonces (Armageddon Experience) y Johnny Cash (I See Men As Trees Walking). Oímos el testimonio del gobernador de Arkansas, Mike Huckabee, sobre cómo cambió su vida Explo ´72, por el mensaje de Billy Graham, que escuchamos un extracto. Las canciones en estudio son de Kris Kristofferson (Why Me?), que invitó Cash a cantar, pero no está grabada su actuación, así como del disco de Larry Norman que publicó ese año (Pardon Me). La música de fondo de los comentarios de José de Segovia es la banda sonora original de Danny Elfman para la película de Ang Lee, "Destino: Woodstock" (2009).

This time I used a sermon by the late Billy Graham, a well-known evangelist from the late 1940s to 2005.  
He had a notable and renowned ability to passionately and effectively preach from the Biblical scriptures.  Graham preached to an estimated 215 million people in over 185 countries during his life.  He also pioneered the use of new technologies to preach, including radio, television, films, and the internet.

Each of us has the same amount of time in every day—1,440 minutes a day, 168 hours a week. “The days of our lives are seventy years; and if by reason of strength they are eighty years, yet their boast is only labor and sorrow; for it is soon cut off, and we fly away” (Psalm 90:10).

Let’s think about those 70-some years for a moment. The first 15 are spent in childhood. We spend 20 years sleeping. In our final years, physical limitations curtail our activities. So you’ve only got about 30 years left. Now part of that time has to be spent in eating, and part of that time has to be spent working. So how much time do you have left? “What is your life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away,” says James 4:14. Just a vapor. It comes up like a vapor and it’s gone. That’s what your life is in eternity, and in the sight of God.

The Bible says, “[Redeem] the time, because the days are evil” (Ephesians 5:16). The Bible talks about the “prince of the power of the air” (Ephesians 2:2), who is the devil.

Jesus calls him the “prince of this world” (see John 12:31). The Bible talks about the great forces of evil, dominated by Satan, that have been unleashed upon the world. Thank God, someday Satan is going to be bound, and Satan will not trouble us anymore. But “[redeem] the time, because the days are evil.” That means that we are to buy some time. That word redeem is a business word. We are to redeem—we are to buy—the time at any cost to invest it in the Kingdom of God.

The name's Alex- also known as G-seeker.  I am an artist, not so much a musician but probably more of that than anything else here.  I've spent years working with Image-line's FLStudio as my digital studio platform because I've loved music all my life and it was an easy way for me to be creative with the talent God's given me.

Just like any artist, I've had my ups and downs..  I would say over 80% or 90% of the time I spend trying to create music and put something together all that comes out is random garbage that I would never want to listen to in my right mind. lol  In fact I usually end up scrapping these projects for good after spending an hour trying hard to make it sound like anything but stereo-typical unappealing garbage.

I do have to say to my credit however that I'm not always that bad at it and I'm not always pooping on myself- so to speak. xD  I'm happy to have gone through all of that with the successes I've made in the process.   I spend time with God alot in my day to day life, and I believe that helps my mind be more focused, alert and attentive to the artistic flow all of us musicians and artists usually construct our masterpieces from.  I've gained alot of success through that I suppose. A peaceful and focused mind will do that for an artist who's truly centered on Jesus.  Sometimes the art just seems to flow without me realizing it, and it's been that way for over 7 years now.
