Bell-Bottom Stride (Vintage Funk) reimagines a lyrical time capsule as a strutting, horn-laced groove straight out of 1973. Channeling the swagger of Curtis Mayfield and the streetwise poetry of Gil Scott-Heron, this version blends classic funk textures with a vocal that’s half sermon, half smirk. It’s a love letter to Blaxploitation cinema, underground pride, and the sacred ritual of walking tall—if only for 90 minutes in a darkened theater.

1988’s “I'm Gonna Git You Sucka,” directed by Keenen Ivory Wayans, was a sleeper hit at a time when there weren’t a lot of sleeper hits yet. This had a cast of greats from the 70s blaxploitation era, as well as future comedy legends only just getting their first job on a movie. In our ongoing search for comedies from decades ago to see if they’re still funny, we pick this movie apart in painstaking detail. We also talk about James Bond, the MCU, Amazon’s “Heads of State,” and all sorts of cultural silliness. Because that’s our beat. You’re welcome.

De eerste aflevering van het vijfde seizoen van Cinepraatjes, de podcast van Cinemaatjes. We gaan op dezelfde voet verder. Er is niks verandert. We maken al 8 jaar Cinemaatjes reviews en onze 400ste aflevering komt eraan. We hebben een nieuw Maatje op Patreon, maar zijn er ook eentje kwijt. We gaan binnenkort naar het BUT Film Festival in Breda en laten weten wat we gaan kijken. Ook Marino is er weer met een sonnet. William heeft in aanloop naar de Special gekeken naar de Blaxploitation-film ‘Coffy’ met Pam Grier. JP wil het graag even hebben over ‘Jurassic World: Rebirth’ met Scarlett Johansson, maar waarom eigenlijk. Ook zijn we samen in de bioscoop naar ‘Weapons’ geweest, de nieuwe film van Zach Cregger die eerder ‘Barbarian’ regisseerde. En oh ja, JP wil het blijkbaar ook nog eventjes over ‘ The Fantastic Four: First Steps’ hebben. We trokken de Duitse film ‘Der Todesking’ uit de kast. In de Special hebben we het uitgebreid over ‘Jackie Brown’ van Quentin Tarantino en ook deze keer beantwoorden we weer vragen van luisteraars, erg interessante vragen zelfs over o.a. de tijd tussen seizoenen of films in een franchise, nieuwere films die we graag in de jaren 80 of 90 gemaakt hadden willen zien worden, filmset anekdotes, films om aan aliens te laten zien en oude series die een Imax-knaller verdienen. This week's Liquid Sunshine turned up the heat with a relentless barrage of hard funk that hit like a sledgehammer to the soul, featuring deep cuts and bangers that proved funk music's raw power remains unmatched.

From Mother Freedom Band's opening statement through to Richard Evans' "Burning Spear," every track was selected for maximum groove impact, showcasing funk's ability to move bodies while delivering serious social commentary. This was funk in its purest, most uncompromising form—no softening of edges, just pure rhythmic assault that reminded listeners why funk became the foundation for so much of what followed.
