The amount of pressure that my partner and I endured over the past few years has been daunting. Somehow, we managed. There were restful moments in between when we could catch our breath and simply rest.

It was physically, mentally, and spiritually challenging. There were nights when I could not even utter a simple prayer, but the Most High watched everything I was going through and that was enough.

The exhaustion is still there, but I survived. I overcame the obstacles placed before me. The pressure was intense, and so many things were happening at once, but somehow, I was able to navigate each turn, and there were many.

Suffice it to say, we were overwhelmed much of the time, but we found ways to adapt. We got in shape. We began eating better than we had in years. We were placed into intense training grounds, if you will.

The pressure was necessary to transform ourselves and our lives.

Although we still deal with upsets, we are far more equipped these days to handle the matters at hand. Solutions present themselves, and we switch gears quickly. The suffering was long and painful, but from it we grew. We learned. We fought. And we are stronger for it.

Oddly enough, looking back, we are both grateful for the experience.

We needed change, and we got it.

Transformation is not easy. It may not look anything like what you imagined. In our case it was losing everything, going homeless for a short while, but after the storm, there is a peace that settles over you that is unmistakably what the Universe ordered. You will not see this right away.

It is difficult to look at a disaster that way while you are deep inside it. But when you finally step outside of it, when you become the observer and look back with some distance, it begins to unfold.

Perhaps the pressure was never meant to destroy us.

Perhaps it was meant to transform us.

Pressure-Enter the Light Poems Blog Entry

About five weeks ago, I started doing something I never really expected to do.

Karaoke.

Once a week, I walk into our community room, grab a microphone, and sing with a bunch of people I live around.

And the whole thing feels completely surreal.

My neighborhood is an interesting place. There is beauty here, but there is also struggle. I see addiction. I see people living hard lives and every/thing that goes with it and yet there is a charm. I see things that remind me every day that life isn’t always pretty.

And then comes karaoke day.

Suddenly, we’re singing.

For a couple of hours, the outside world seems to disappear. Someone picks a song, somebody else grabs the microphone, people clap, laugh, sing along, and somehow this odd little weekly ritual has become one of the brightest parts of my week.

The biggest surprise?

I’m actually pretty good at it.

I’ve discovered there are certain songs that just fit my voice. I don’t have to force them. Something happens when the music starts, and I can feel that I have a natural ability I never really explored before.

But karaoke has given me something bigger than discovering I can sing.

It has given me confidence.

After spending a long time questioning myself in different areas of my life, there is something incredibly freeing about standing in front of people with a microphone and simply going for it.

Maybe that’s the lesson in all of this.

Sometimes the thing you’re mildly uncomfortable doing is exactly the thing you should try.

Walk into the room.

Pick the song.

Grab the microphone.

You might embarrass yourself.

Or you might discover a part of yourself that has been waiting a very long time to sing. I am discovering things beyond myself and it is so rewarding.

Life Is Weird. So, I Started Singing-Enter the Light Blog

I am moving differently these days. I have to.

The season is changing, and so am I.

I call these the quiet years.

This has been a time of stripping and unfolding; a period the Most High God called me to. I get pieces of information, never the whole puzzle. In the last season, I gained confidence after the great stripping. Everything in my life had disintegrated, and for a while, so did I.

It taught me so many things, how to be brave, how to flow, and how to be adventurous.

I realized that I could no longer control my life. In the past, I was controlling and directing each step, but I was not living.

Now, I live.

I do things I never thought possible. I am growing stronger every day, and it has bred a kind of fearlessness within me.

The Most High put me in a strange place, a beautiful place, an oasis, if you will.

Around me is a society that is crumbling, a reminder of where I first went after the stripping. I will call this the outskirts.

It is not a place to wander. It can be very dangerous and is filled with those who are lost. Many souls seem to have lost their way. There are drugs, sadness, and despair.

This place is so unusual that even describing the people and what this place truly is becomes difficult.

And yet, I can also say that it is beautiful.

I have been through a lot here, almost as if it were a training ground.

It is a slice of heaven in hell.

Since I have lived here, I have witnessed so much despair, homeless animals, homeless people, mental illness, poverty, prostitution, and everything that comes with it.

But I have also witnessed some of the best parts of humanity.

People caring for one another.

People sharing what little they have.

Diversity.

Kindness.

There were days when I fell in love with this place, and there were days when I turned inward with my tears.

These words cannot fully describe the depths of both the darkness and the light that I have seen.

Maybe that is what this place was meant to show me:

that even in the darkest places,
light finds somewhere to live

A Slice of Heaven in Hell-Enter the Light Blog Entry

Everyone talks about awakening as if it is beautiful, as if one morning you simply open your eyes, understand the mysteries of life, forgive everyone, drink your coffee, and walk peacefully into enlightenment. That is not awakening. Awakening is uncomfortable. The Light does not simply illuminate what is beautiful within us. It illuminates everything: the wounds, the lies, the excuses, the people we hurt, the times we betrayed ourselves, the patterns we inherited and continued, and the things we blamed on everyone else because looking at ourselves would have been far more painful. This is why awakening is not for the weak at heart.

Darkness Is Easy
There is something people rarely want to admit: darkness can be incredibly easy. It is easy to lie. It is easy to manipulate. It is easy to gossip. It is easy to blame someone else. It is easy to become bitter. It is easy to hurt people because we have been hurt. It is easy to justify terrible behavior by pointing toward the terrible behavior of someone else. It is easy to say, They made me do it. They deserved it. That is just who I am. Everyone does it. But the Light asks a much harder question: What did you do? Not your mother. Not your father. Not your ex. Not the person who betrayed you. Not society. Not the people who misunderstood you. You. And that question can shake a person to their foundation.


Real awakening is not believing that you have somehow become spiritually superior to everyone around you. Quite the opposite. The deeper you awaken, the more difficult it becomes to hide from yourself. You begin recognizing your own patterns. You notice when your ego enters the room. You recognize when fear is making your decisions. You catch yourself projecting old wounds onto new people. You begin understanding that healing does not mean pretending nothing happened. It means refusing to become what hurt you.

That requires accountability, and accountability is uncomfortable because it destroys the stories we created to protect ourselves. Sometimes we were wrong. Sometimes we were selfish. Sometimes we stayed too long. Sometimes we hurt someone. Sometimes we knew better and did it anyway. The awakened person eventually has to become capable of saying, I did that. I was wrong. I need to change. Those may be some of the most spiritual words a human being can ever speak.


People say they want truth until truth requires something from them. Truth may cost you relationships. It may cost you friendships. It may cost you family. It may cost you an identity you spent decades building. It may require boundaries. It may require forgiveness. It may require walking away. And sometimes it requires looking directly into the mirror and realizing that you are the one who needs to change.

That is where awakening becomes real, because once you see something clearly, it becomes much harder to pretend you do not see it. You cannot continuously ask for Light and then become angry when it reveals what has been hiding in the room. That is what Light does. It reveals.

Cancer cells do not grow in isolation. Their ability to survive and form tumors depends partly on how they interact with immune cells in the surrounding tumor microenvironment. Melanoma is particularly responsive to immune-based mechanisms, making it important to understand the molecular processes that allow melanoma cells to limit or escape antitumor immune responses.

A research paper published in Volume 17 of Oncotarget, titled “DHHC3 interferes with antitumor immunity in melanoma cells,” investigated the role of the protein acyltransferase DHHC3 in melanoma growth, oxidative stress, cellular senescence, and antitumor immunity. 

Why Study DHHC3 in Melanoma?
DHHC3 is one of 23 members of the DHHC family of protein acyltransferases. These enzymes modify proteins through a process known as palmitoylation, which can influence where proteins are located within cells and how they function.

Previous research from the investigators showed that DHHC3 palmitoylates numerous antioxidant and redox-regulatory proteins, providing a mechanism through which it helps control intracellular oxidative stress. Higher DHHC3 expression has also been associated with poorer survival across several cancer types, while DHHC3 ablation has previously been shown to reduce breast tumor growth.

However, an important question remained unresolved: does eliminating DHHC3 suppress tumors because of changes occurring directly within cancer cells, or because those changes allow the immune system to attack the tumor more effectively?
