There's an old cafeteria in north Californ'

The first thing that happened when I left the room
I was walking the pavement on a pale afternoon
My nose caught the smell of the water and gloom
It followed me as I was going

The air, it was quiet, no movements to fear
The song of the bluebirds were all I did hear
They sailed down the sky as the darkness drew near
To a branch down below I was walking

On to Santa Rosa while riding along 
I joined the young children in stories and song
Just then came the wind; it was crying and strong
So loud that it drowned out our talking

As I was dismounting it happened like this
The leaves were a'rustling in a hurricane twist
The branches a’bending as the water did hiss
The rain and the cold were in progress

With trembling footsteps I reached for the mat
Then twisting the handle of the door I was at
I tried to keep warm in my jacket and hat
While heeding the pound of the rainstorm

Then turning around I could smell the perfume
A soft hearted lady by the light of the moon
Her voice met the wind that was whisltin’ the tune
A song that could fasten your heartbeat

“Come softly, come softly,” she said unto me
As the thunderstorm echoed in say can you see
She opened the front door and spoke gently
The warmth of the home was  inviting.

She fed me a hot meal of chilli and bread
And away in her arms I laid down my sweet head
As she sang the emotions ol’ Smokey once said
Someday I'll have you back forever

I woke the next morning and wondered in vain
Will I ever see my sweet darlin again?
Or just hear the saxophone crying in pain
In a song of emotional sorrow?

With ears of attention I stared to the room
Where the pretty young woman once sang me the tune
I hear quite often dusk meets the moon
And remember the love that ran through it

I play my harmonica with no end at all
Said Sun to the pine trees, “O please heed the call!”

The Ballad of Chilly Winds

This song was orignally a Bob Dylan influenced acoustic song but while recording it became more like a Deep Purple rock song. That's my mistake, I take responsibility for it... Still there are references to Tombstone Blues and Blowing in the Wind that cannot be overheard. In this song the "How many" questions are a bit more desolate though: the son living in a gaming chair, the wife always searching for her antidepressants and the "me" person in the basement checking if the rope will hold. And when the sun stops glowing, everyone will die...
