Gold Card is a song first written and demoed some years back.  The lyrics report on an  interaction that I witnessed one evening in  a bar in Manhattan. Gold Card (2025)

On Sunday, 18 May 2025, I marched with 100,000 human beings in The Hague, the Netherlands. We marched in a long Red Line against the genocide in Gaza. I walked most of the way with tears in my eyes; profoundly touched by this show of humanity. 
On Monday, 19 May 2025, I wrote the lyrics for a song titled, This Red Line. 
On Tuesday, 20 May 2025, I picked up my guitar and improvised a melody, clean slate, and recorded only one take on my iPad. This is it.
Today, Wednesday, 21 May 2025, I publish this song as my tribute to the people of Gaza and to all the human beings I marched with on Sunday, 18 May 2025. It is raw and unpracticed and far from perfect. But I feel in it the pain I have experienced since 7 October 2023, and the overwhelming power of humanity I so intensely felt during that historic march in The Hague, when the human beings in the Netherlands said, ‘No more genocide! Never again!’

this track was my 'baby' for a while - I started the chord structure/concept of the song one day but then kind'a got stuck. Judson (Jud) helped me finish it; the whole time I had this whole string-arrangement idea in my head; inspired by 'eleanor rigby' so I stayed locked away in my home-studio for days on end; determined to get it the strings just right. Ricky began his musical journey when he was still at school as a bass player playing in bands in the North East and London before moving on to Spain and slowly gravitating from the shadows to the centre stage.

Years spent travelling around the North playing at endless different venues and events honed his craft and reputation as a solid performer and in March 2020 he released his debut album ‘The Right Light’ to critical acclaim, having three tracks from it played on BBC Introducing, including one track of the week for ‘Coming Up’.

Some things are just meant to be. Alicia Best (US) and Robert Jackson (UK) met while busking on the cobbled streets of Ireland and discovered both a musical and personal harmony that was serendipitous. In the decade since forming A Different Thread, Best and Jackson have taken their act on the road, touring over a dozen countries, supporting artists such as The Milk Carton Kids and Jody Stephens (Big Star), and garnering critical praise from the likes of Folk Radio UK, which hailed the duo as “warm, deep songwriters that have drank from the well of 20th century tradition.”

Their new album, Over Again (out Sep 2nd 25’), was written during a period of transition, marked by their arrival stateside and a solar eclipse. Recording began in their tiny home studio, continued in Sylvan Esso's Betty's (The Mountain Goats, Watchhouse), and finished at Alma Vale Studio (Phantom Limb/Yola, Elles Bailey) in the UK. 

Their sound is transcontinental, blending Jackson's British folk rock background with Best's North Carolina-bred alt-country melodies. Informed by their life experiences (navigating visas, vanlife, love across oceans) and liberal commentary on both environmental and social justice topics, the album mixes electric guitars with Appalachian dulcimer, gospel-tinged vocals with honky-tonk fiddle. While inspired by artists like Gillian Welch, The Avett Brothers, and John Prine, A Different Thread maintain a distinct sound that is all their own. 

Alicia and Robert see the creation of Over Again as a testament to the power that music has to heal and transform: “For us, this album marks a new beginning—like a rebirth—as we shed negative cycles to work towards a brighter future.”

A songwriting/recording project initiated to focus on the writing talents of Robert Sterling as well as several very talented collaborators/singers.  Older, wiser and definitely better, Sterling and colleagues continue to pump out irresistibly catchy pop/rock/alternative tunes.

Gloop T. Spickett is a saw-tooth, shit-kickin', sod-bustin', chew spittin' farmer who likes to sit on his front porch with his toilet and fridge and play old school country tunes. Sometimes his buddies, The Country Coveralls, come by with some sippin' whiskey to join him in what many in Bama Lama County agree is the best damn music on the planet this side of the old crawdad pond.
Gloop and the boys are just playing the good songs made by the best country artists of all time. He's not re-inventing the tractor, he's just stealing someone else's and riding it to the Piggly Wiggly for all it's worth.
