Mindfulness of Body Guided Meditation

This guided mindfulness practice will support you in becoming more aware of how stress may be showing up in your body. You’ll be led through a body scan, moving attention gradually through your body, noticing any sensations with openness and curiosity. Towards the end of the practice, there’s space for a few moments of gentle movement before returning to stillness. October Challenge 25 - Day 2 – Grounded in the Body: A Mindful Body Scan

As soon as I heard her voice, I knew I had to record it. I met Rainbow at a wellness convention at the Tsz Shan Monastery in Hong Kong 2024. She guided an hour-long sound performance meditation with other HK sound practitioners. 6 months later, we were on a beach in Cheng Chau Island recording her first meditation. 

Rainbow guides us through a 'Body Scan Meditation' where the listener follows her guidance to connect with different parts of the body. It made me realize that I usually thought of my body as one balanced object. I took for granted that each part was a part of a whole, and paid attention only to what was out of balance. For the first time, I focused on each part testing the extents of the perception of my own body. 

Our spot was on the beach opposite from the ferry port with a view of the towers of Pok Fu Lam across the water. The mono track emphasized her voice over the turbulent ocean waves which helped to contain my attention and eliminate all thought.

Props recommended: Weighted blanket, extra layers for warmth, eye cover, support under knees.

Vata Doshic Deep Rest

A clinically-informed guided rest practice designed to stimulate circulation and counter the heavy, stagnant, inert qualities of Kapha dosha. This protocol uses activating awareness, warming breath, and strategic movement of attention to dissolve the characteristic Kapha patterns of lethargy, emotional heaviness, oversleeping, and resistant inertia.

Unlike traditional yoga nidra, this practice addresses Kapha's specific constitutional needs through:

-Shorter duration to prevent deepening of stagnation
-Warming and energizing cues that counter heaviness without demanding action
-Dynamic rotation of attention to prevent settling into dullness
-Light, upward-moving awareness rather than grounding anchors
-Strategic activation of breath and circulation without leaving rest state

Ideal for those experiencing: depression or low mood, oversleeping without feeling rested, difficulty initiating change, emotional stagnation or attachment, spring allergies or congestion, metabolic sluggishness, or the stuck-in-molasses state that comes from prolonged Kapha imbalance.

Props recommended: Minimal props, warm but not heavy covering, slight incline with head elevated, well-ventilated space.

After years of clinical practice, I kept seeing the same pattern: people try yoga nidra and either fall into a dead sleep, get more anxious, or feel nothing at all. That's because traditional yoga nidra treats all nervous systems the same. Your nervous system has a constitution. A Vata person spiraling with anxiety needs something fundamentally different than a Kapha person stuck in depression or a Pitta person burning out from relentless drive. These protocols address those differences.

I created Doshic Deep Rest as a clinical alternative—three separate practices built from Ayurvedic pulse diagnosis and years of watching what actually works in real bodies. They use the therapeutic structure of guided rest without the lineage baggage, designed specifically for the nervous system patterns I see in practice: scattered and anxious (Vata), driven and inflamed (Pitta), or heavy and stagnant (Kapha).
