The role of the Tzaddik, like Yosef, and the Beit HaMikdash, represented by Binyamin, are central in channeling divine light built through the vessels of joy and yearning—to contain that light and draw redemption closer. Without these vessels, spiritual highs cannot be sustained, leading to instability. The ten Psalms of the Tikkun HaKlali activate deep spiritual melodies that refine prayer, making it a true vessel for divine connection even in darkness. Mourning, when done sincerely, prepares the soul to receive a greater joy. Rebbe Nachman’s vision of a continuous spiritual flame that will burn until the coming of Mashiach is upheld by those who cling to his path, finding meaning even in suffering by connecting to the kindness destined to be revealed in the morning of redemption.

The unique role of the special Shabbats leading to Purim and Pesach. These Shabbats help prepare the soul gradually for higher levels of purification and connection to the Infinite. Slow and hidden personal growth over time, often only noticeable in hindsight, and on the role of mitzvot—especially the red heifer—as direct connectors to God's Infinite Light. Emuna, simple faith, is the foundation of all Torah observance. While certain mitzvot may seem rational or even graspable, true Jewish practice is built on faith, not intellectual analysis. The limitations of human understanding, with all mitzvot—even those that appear logical—must be framed as decrees requiring inner submission. Approaching Torah with faith rather than speculative reasoning brings deeper and lasting spiritual connection. Shabbat, Purim, and related observances are spiritual boosts, designed to uplift the soul and reconnect it to its source through joy, simplicity, and unwavering emuna.

In Parshat Devarim, Moshe blesses the Jewish people, “May Hashem add upon you a thousandfold.” But why does he offer a finite blessing when Hashem had already promised Avraham an infinite one? Rebbe Nachman reveals that while Hashem’s blessings are limitless, we need spiritual vessels to receive them. The Keter—represented by the word “elef” (a thousand)—acts as a barrier that transforms infinite light into something we can absorb. Tzaddikim like Moshe and Yosef access the Keter and pass its light to us with joy, even amidst hardship. Without the Beit HaMikdash, however, we lack the vessel to hold that light, causing us to crash after moments of inspiration. On Tisha B’Av, we mourn both the Temple and the concealment of the tzaddikim—because only together can they sustain the Divine light and joy we so deeply yearn for.

Parshat Devarim - Moshe's Blessing

In Parshat VaEtchanan, the Torah repeats the mitzvot of Shabbat and honoring parents—commandments that were already given earlier at Marah. There, the Jews received a foretaste of Torah law, specifically those that require effort and faith: chok and mishpat. These include Shabbat, honoring parents, the Noachide laws, and the red heifer. Why were these given early? Because they represent the bitterness of life’s tests. Hashem gave them before the Ten Commandments to show that the path to revelation and redemption requires navigating bitterness with emunah. Shabbat Nachamu and Tu B’Av echo this theme: after bitterness comes consolation, and with it, the joy and light that only emunah can uncover.

Parshat VaEtchanan - The Laws and Statues of Marah

In Parshat Eikev, Moshe’s final forty days with the second tablets reveal a spiritual map hidden in the word arba’im—Aleph, Resh, Bet, Ayin, Yud, Mem—each letter representing a stage in the soul’s journey. It begins with inspiration from the highest light (Aleph) and the eager running toward it (Resh), followed by the inevitable setback (betisha, Bet) and the test of sadness (Ayin). The turning point comes with the Yud—the ten types of melody, the root of all joy, accessed through the Tikkun HaKlali. Finally, Mem is forgiveness, the Yom Kippur gift of renewal. Together, these stages teach that every fall can lead to greater joy and closeness to Hashem when met with ratzon, hope, and the guidance of the tzaddikim.

In Parshat Re’eh, the Torah commands us to destroy five types of idolatry upon entering the Land. Rebbe Nachman reveals that each one corresponds to a lack of true simcha, the very root of idol worship. The altars of many stones reflect ingratitude, the single-stone altar denial of even one good point, the idol-tree a false impression that must be burned with holy joy and movement, the carved idols a denial of the eternal joy of the future, and their names mocked as we turn silliness into real joy. By uprooting these five, we open the way to serve Hashem in the Holy Land with joy and truth.

The Torah forbids five types of mixtures—trees, vineyards, seeds, animals, and clothing—each hinting to spiritual admixtures that trap holiness in the Chamber of Exchanges. Rebbe Nachman reveals that the repair comes through five pathways of simcha: sanctified silliness, dancing, finding good points, thanksgiving, and joy of the future. Each joy-tool counters a specific form of kila’im, releasing sparks from imprisonment and reconnecting us to Hashem. Through simcha, we rise above confusion and prepare the world for its final rectification.

Through joyful giving, the produce of Eretz Yisrael becomes a channel of blessing to the entire world and draws us closer to the final redemption.
