Instead of responding to setbacks with patience and emunah, they lash out—complaining against the manna, Moshe, and Hashem. The copper snake Moshe raises represents the key to healing: Nechash (snake) contains Nun and Chash—the 50th Gate and silence. The light of the Keter, the highest spiritual level, can only enter when we endure its tests with silence and longing. The people were meant to remain quiet and trust—but instead they erupted in complaint, and were bitten. Looking at the copper snake reminded them to subdue their hearts to Hashem. When we stay silent through difficulty and hold on with faith, we become vessels for the Infinite Light. That’s how we merit to enter Eretz Yisrael.

Simcha - The Tikkun of the 5 Disasters of the 17th of Tammuz

The half-shekel coin symbolizes spiritual reconnection and joy in mitzvah observance, especially in relation to the Mishkan and Beit Hamikdash. This donation served not only as funding but as a catalyst to activate simcha, essential for drawing down divine presence and accessing the nine chambers of spiritual perception. These chambers, formed through the intellect, are reached by performing mitzvot with joy, which also retroactively uplifts earlier mitzvot. Intellect, though central to recognizing God in the world, must be anchored in emuna to become a vessel for true perception. The Sanctuary represents divine intellect shaped by faith and happiness. The Ark’s dimensions reflect the balance between finite vessels (nine) and infinite light (ten), with the destruction of the Temple seen as a withdrawal of ten stages of the Shechinah. Yet even in exile, the presence of Moshe Rabbeinu continues through the tzadikim of each generation. In Parshat Pinchas, the Torah describes how the Land of Israel was divided among those over the age of 20 at the time of entry—not based on those currently turning 20. Through the complex system of inheritance, where portions reverted to the names of ancestors who died in the desert, we are taught that entering the Holy Land requires confronting the Keter, the spiritual barrier that pushes us back just before reaching the light. This setback tests our joy and perseverance. Those who responded with simcha despite trials were worthy of receiving the Land. The act of giving the land back to their ancestors before reclaiming it reflects the mechanism of Keter—every true spiritual inheritance requires submission, humility, and endurance. The Land, which is the place where the Infinite Light shines, can only be accessed by those who joyfully accept the Divine “pushback” and hold fast to their desire to be close to Hashem.

Parsht Pinchas - The Inheritance of the Dead

The three-week mourning period is a time for deep spiritual reflection, awakening yearning for the light of the Tzaddikim and the rebuilding of the Beit HaMikdash. This period aligns with the Torah obligation of remembering Amalek through the reading of Parshat Zachor before Purim, a time to erase the influence of Amalek and Haman—symbols of atheism, doubt, and internal spiritual opposition. True "Mechiyah" (erasure) means removing these forces completely, not just subduing them, and Purim’s practices, such as drinking and giving the "zekher" half-shekel beforehand, are tools for this spiritual cleansing and joy. Atheism, rooted in free will and separation from God, parallels Amalek’s defiance and the snake’s deception in Gan Eden, leading to false knowledge and spiritual death. Joy, especially through mitzvahs, nullifies this darkness and reconnects with divine presence. The half-shekel represents this joy, which ultimately countered Haman’s decree and highlights Hashem’s hidden yet precise intervention.
