The march, 'Scarlet and Gold' was originally composed in the 1930s for piano by Lloyd Thomas. Thomas was often described as a 'cinema organist' albeit he studied at the Royal Academy of Music in London where his tutor was York Bowen. an assistant organist at a Garrison Church. Hence his connection with the military.

The march was arranged for military band by the English compoaser and conductor Gilbert Vinter.

The march is recorded in the latest double album CD by the Bands of the Household Division and includes the marches played at the Coronation of King Charles III in May 2023 and those performed at the first of the King's Birthday Parade (Trooping of the Colour) in June.

"Freedom of Windsor" was written by Lieutenant C.H. 'Jiggs' Jaeger. He started his military service as a 'Band Boy' so beginning a distinguished career in which he was responsible for the music at all great state ceremonial occasions.

The march is recorded in the latest double album CD by the Bands of the Household Division, featuring here the Band of the Welsh Guards.
It includes the marches played at the Coronation of King Charles III in May 2023 and those performed at the first of the King's Birthday Parade (Trooping of the Colour) in June.

Marche Militaire (Marche La Ronde) was written by the prolific French composer Charles Gounod.

It is played here by the Band of the Coldstream Guards and recorded by Music House Productions (www.musichouseproductions.co.uk). 

The arrangement is by a former Director of Music of the Band of the Coldstream Guards, Trevor le Mare Sharpe. He is perhaps best known being credited at the end of each episode of the BBC's "Dad's Army" television programme as the regiment performed the closing theme tune.

"At the Close of the Day Last Post" is an original composition by former Director of Music of the Coldstream Guards Lieutenant Colonel Trevor Sharpe.

It uses CC Scolefield's beautiful hymn tune St.Clement, perhaps better known by John Ellerton's words 'The Day Thou Gavest Lord is Ended', which introduces the traditional Last Post.

The Last Post is the bugle call that, from around the 1790s, was traditionally used by the British army to mark the end of the day in a military camp.

It is played here by the Band of the Coldstream Guards and recorded by Music House Productions (www.musichouseproductions.co.uk

The CD, 'When Poppies Fall' was recorded in 2010 by the Band of the Parachute Regiment under the direction of Captain David Hammond.

The purpose of the recording was to include music which forms part of a Service of Remembrance. In addition to the 'standard items, the introit, hymns, the ceremony itself and the Regimental marches is 'Song for Joe'.

Private Joe Whittaker of the 4th Battalion The Parachute Regiment was killed on the 24th of June 2008 while on active service in Afghanistan. 

This piece, originally written for his funeral for solo saxophone with piano and bass guitar, was composed and arranged for military band by his sister, Musician Kate Whittaker and played here by her.

Song For Joe (When Poppies Fall) The Band of the Parachute Regiment

"Sunset", also known as the "Retreat Call", is a traditional bugle call played in United Kingdom and British Commonwealth countries to signal the end of the official military day.

This arrangement is by Captain A C Green, former Director of the Royal Naval School of Music's Junior Wing.

This premiere wind band recording of this march was written by the Scottish composer Patrick Doyle.

He is better known for his prolific film score writing on films such as Henry V, Sense and Sensibility, Hamlet, and Harry Potter.

He was invited to compose his ‘Coronation March’ which was first performed at the coronation of King Charles III on May 6th 2023.

King Charles III Coronation March - Patrick Doyle

"The Other Side of Silence" is a recent work written by the English composer Stephen Roberts. 

It was commissioned by Leamington Music and was originally written for two brass bands. It celebrates coming through the covid lockdown to hearing live music once again.

The title is borrowed from George Eliot’s 1871 book "Middlemarch" and the piece is in the form of eight variations that progress from blithe spirit through adversity to end in ecstatic jubilation.

It was used as the brass band set test piece for the 2022 Swiss Open Championships.

The excerpt is the concluding variations of the work which was specifically transcribed by the composer in this premiere recording for wind band.

The Other Side Of Silence - Stephen Roberts

A report from 1999 about The Disappeared, the seventeen men and women murdered by the IRA, and their bodies secretly buried without trace. The most egregious killing was that of Jean McConville, mother of eight children. When she was taken away to be killed, her seven younf children were left alone in their home, where they were cared by their 15-year-old sister Helen.  Many years later, Sinn Fein declared that these murders by the IRA were 'a blot on Republican integrity'. The remains of Jean McConville's body were eventually found, her identity confirmed by DNA comparison with other members of her family.
