Today you see me working with my Easel/Push/Coco/Model1 setup again, heading off in uncharted sonic territory. All the sound is created by the Music Easel in the moment except for what I feed back from Coco into the Easel (a prior incarnation of the same patch, looped). The Ableton Push only provides reverb & delay, and is used as a backup recording device.

The spark for the piece was the idea to use the Buchla Music Easel's modulation oscillator instead of the Pulser or envelope to open & close the low pass gate. That sounded immediately interesting, and led to this piece. There are some patch explanations in the video and a closeup of the Music Easel if you want to study the patch. Definitely not my usual way of patching it up!

#Jamuary #10 - a sonic adventure with the Buchla Music Easel

Today I was wondering if I there is still capacity in my Model1 to feed back sound to the Music Easel for further processing. Indeed, the cue outs are perfect for that!

With that setup I decided to do a Techno track from scratch using only the Music Easel, with a little bit of support from the Ciat Lonbarde Cocoquantus. As you might know (or not, or not care, all fine with me!) the Easel has no noise source. For drums,  noise is prettyx much what you want. Luckily, the Coco when started up contains noise in its two loopers, and thats what I am using!

The Midronome is displaying 131 BPM in the video. It was not used, clocking is Ableton internal at 136 BPM.

Today turned out to move into a different direction. Yesterday I added the capability to my setup to process sounds again with my Buchla & Coco even after I recorded them with Push.

That feature can also be used directly - it is in fact a feedback loop. And down that rabit hole we went!

"Jamuary" - (aim to) publish one jam per day. This is number 16.

This started out as a 140BPM piece but somehow I ended up doing everything in half-time, so it is in fact at a leasurly 70 BPM. The spark today was using the same melodic line three times - original, filtered and/or pitched higher and with altereing starting points. That first bit was easy as is so often the case. I then spend a lot of time trying different things with it, and ended up learning some new stuff about Push along the way. So all good.
